Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The three other members of the school's bike club and myself managed to average 24km's/hr with the time at the rest stops and such, so prolly closer to 26ish. Not too bad really. It's a beautiful area to ride in, although I don't think there was more than a kilometer of continuous flat road on the whole route.

Oh, and I managed to fall over twice thanks to my pedals, but both times I was already stopped with one foot out, I simply leaned the wrong way.

Great weather too, aside from the wind, which was brutal at times. My cyclocomputer only read 98.33km's, but I trust the CBBC's distance of 63.9 miles more than I trust a $40 wireless bike comp. Hopefully I'll be back for it next year, it was a great ride. Hope everyone else had a safe and fun time today.

If I scale speeds and everything based on the error in my computer, the average comes out to 26km's even, so maybe a little over that. That places it as my 2nd or 3rd fastest average too.
Glade, do you by any chance have reddish hair? It seems that every time I turned around I saw a tall guy with red hair in a blue Blair Academy jersey.
We were on the road at the same time, I got passed by four blue flashes about ten miles into the ride and it was the four guys from Blair. Then it seemed that at every rest stop I saw one or two of them. I was also envious of the school bus that got you there, all I could think of on my two hour drive home with aching legs was that I would rather be sitting on a bus and letting some one else drive me.
I didn't see the BF banner, but I got there at 7:30 and hit the road at 8:00, which may have been before most of the BF'ers showed up.

No, I was the guy with long dark brown hair, a Cofidis color-schemed Atmos helmet, a Jittery Joes cycling hat under it, knee wamers and a navy blue baselayer under my Blair Academy jersey, riding the Flyte SRS-2, usually sucking wind and just trying to keep up. Trying a hilly metric after only riding for a month = trial by fire. I actually rode home with my parents, but the bus was handy to change out of bike clothes in.

I too did not meet any of the forum members. After the ride I rode up and down the rows of cars looking for any BF signage but was not successful. Next ride we will have to wear green armbands or something. Other than the lousy road surfaces in many locations, everything else was ok.

Well, a few of us met up. Sorry, we were a bit late getting to the start. I'm uploading the pictures I took now. If I don't fall asleep at the keyboard, I'll have them up later on.

I was chronologically challenged, and got there at 8:00. Amazingly, I parked one car away from KirkeIsWaiting and Mirona, purely by coincidence. (There were about 2,700 people on the various rides.)

Fantastic ride. I think I've gained a permanent windswept look. I'm sorry I missed meeting a few of you others but glad to hear your rides went well also. Mirona/Jo, start a new thread for the pix ...

Hope you enjoy this picture of SpongeDad, it's the best I could find on short notice ... (Tim Allen is talking to him)

It was a fun ride, although the hills and wind made it a pretty good workout! Some of the headwinds made me feel like a dog sticking it's head out a car window, lips flapping in the breeze. No wait, that was just me talking too much...

Three cheers to the Central Bucks Bicycle Club for putting a lot of work in to hosting a very well organized event.

Wish I could've been there!

I had a good time at the ride also. I finally meet some of the forum folks on the drive home! I had finished the ride and was heading home when I saw them crossing one of the last covered bridges. I stopped and they snapped a few photos.

It was good to meet you and I'm sorry we didn't have more time to ride together.

Next year definately!

Dante.

I can't wait to see those pictures. The scenery was perfect.

Sorry, the pic was there, then disappeared overnight ... I re-did it as a thumbnail. Here's better pix of SpongeDad ...

Bibi, he looks exactly as I imagined! How 'bout that? Has anyone ever told him he looks a little like Sid Vicious?

Well, the crew at the ride was wondering what he looked like (since he didn't wait for them at the start), and was complaining he hadn't posted in the "What we look like" thread, so I thought I'd shed a little light. He's a little older, but his hard living hasn't caught up with him too much ...

We missed you, too, Beth, but I just hope I don't have to wait until next year's Lancaster ride to see you/ride with you again!

Kloden, you were missed, too. Higher Ground and Mirona did pretty well with their bungies, but with all that high altitude training you'll be receiving in the near future, I fully expect you to show up at next year's ride lookin' awesome!
