SU Alum! (could ya tell?) Tried to find the team jersey, think they are now defunct, so I picked up the licensee one.

Well, just because the college jerseys sold by Nashbar and many LBS's are not the same jersey the college team or club wears, they are not fakes. They are officially licensed products that pay royalities to the schools. Adrenaline produces the jerseys and they are nice. In the case of Ohio State, Bike Source carries the "team" jerseys, and I just like Adrenaline jersey better then the Voler team jersey. Plus the team jerseys are only available at Bike Source. Here is the OSU cycling club jersey:

University of Arizona Wildcats. I don't wear it very often, and when I do, I feel kinda like the kid in Clockers who cruised the projects in his UofA gear. Not that I pack heat or sell crack, but I also have wear my brooklyn cycling cap sometimes. I suppose if I wore them together, an astute Spike Lee afficionado would call me out, but I've never tried that. perhaps on Saturday. . ..

Go Dawgs... going to get a team jersey eventually.

Go Bears!

Nashbar is great but the jerseys they sell are probably not what the team wears. More importantly, even though they're officially licensed, those license fees will go to the university, maybe not even the athletic department, and little if anything will trickle down to the cycling team. In the case of Cal Cycling, if you buy directly from them you get the exact same kit and all the profit goes directly to support the team. And since it's a club sport, they get next to nothing from the university. So fire up Google and search for the cycling team of your alma mater or favorite school and contact them directly. I know they'll be thrilled to sell you a jersey, shorts, whatever. |

What would you expect to pay for the official club/team jersey?
I found my alma mater..and the team pays $45, anyone currently affiliated with the University(janitor/coach, etc) gets tehm for $55 and alumni have to pay $80... Kind of struck me as nailing the Alums...The shorts are priced in $10 increments...much more reasonable. |
|
Cal Cycling team members: $42. Non-team members: $77. Nashbar: $69.99. For me, it's a no-brainer.
If they're nailing the alums? I guess that's a matter of perspective. I probably wouldn't be able to afford a $77 shirt without the education I received at Cal. It's not like I'm endowing a chair or building a new lecture hall, but it's a contribution nonetheless. |
I am miffed, neither the University of South Florida or University of Nevada Reno has any info on how to obtain team cycling jerseys. I shoulda did better to gotten myself to a more proper school like you alls.
|
The athletic department at the school should have contact info for college teams. Try the student union for sports clubs and intramural sports.
|
Hey, thanks, I'll give that a try.

I've said this in a previous "college jerseys" thread, but I'll say it again. Please be sure to search a little bit to see if the school jersey you're looking at purchasing has a cycling sportclub/team. More than likely, they have their own jersey that they've made and are selling. Purchase those instead of the generic ones you're seeing on nashbar, as A) they'll help the team out, and B) they're authentic stuff made from your own alum.
That longhorns one for example...it's a pretty sharp jersey, but visit www.utcycling.org and you'll find the UT cycling team has an even better design. And again, it will benefit the poor college kids. http://www.utcycling.org/images/utcc_jersey_orange.gif My own school isn't popular enough apparently, so we don't have online vendors making jerseys with our logo on it. But I think our club has a sweet jersey. Purchase these and you'll be benefitting a small team that has a lot of potential. www.cougarcycling.com http://home.earthlink.net/~thuto/realjersey%20copy.jpg |
