I likely won't make it up there until a weekend in late September, but you never know. I still think it would be cool to organize a bunch of BFers.

sorry if this is a dumb question, but i'm looking at the map and do you ride on 1. 9W,
2. Palisades Pkwy, or 3. Henry Hudson Dr.? I'm really wanting to do this ride but don't know exactly how to go.

also, in response to another post, yeah there are some tight sections of 9w that can be unpleasant with traffic. use the roberts bike hudson directions (and the route is marked the whole way) and it's pretty good. by noon, traffic picks up on Sat and an be a little crazy.

The crazy hill may only apply to the Manitou station which is where I have done it from.

Just did the Seven Lakes Loop yesterday. I started out from Lake Tiorati and went up Perkins to the top of Bear Mountain. Decent road with very little traffic. I then road over to Bear Mountain Inn where it was very congested with schoolbuses etc on a Saturday. Had to walk a little way on the grass on the Palisades as the Roberts route sheets suggests. I then worked my way over to Rt9. I saw the turn for 118A however decided to wait for R118, which I missed. I road all the way down to Filors Lane and cut across. If felt that this road was steeper and tougher than Bear Mountain. It crosses under the Palisades at Exit 14.
I saw some cyclists, but not that many in the park.
I was alone, however it would be more fun in a group.

I too would love to do the Bear Mountain ride. Although since I live on the Lower East Side in Manhattan, maybe I should take the train to (at least) the GW Bridge. No sense in adding 20 miles (round trip) if we're going up Bear Mountain!!
Unfortunately, I can only do it on a weekend.

I'm thinking about doing a (very) short tour next weekend or the weekend after... riding up from Brooklyn to / beyond Bear Mountain (wherever I can find camping) on Friday, to Beacon to see the DIA museum on Sat, and then either back to New York or on northward on Sunday, depending on whether I decide I've got time and budget to continue. Anybody know of any camping in the area between Bear Mountain and Beacon, or thereabouts?

You can camp in Harriman State Park. It is awesome. I think that you need to pay a fee; we paid $75 for a group site for the weekend that was big enough for 50 campers. It shouldnt cost you much. Very safe area.
