how about just buying a pair of clip on aero bars? You can do a sprint triathlon on a mtb with slick tire and clip ons. Maybe not ideal, but it will work for the short run

Oooo carpel tunnel.I feel for you I just surgery to take care of mine..I was out of work for 6 weeks per hand..
