Question on categorizing climbs

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Question on categorizing climbs

I rode my first "big" climb this weekend, and I wanted to try and get a sense of how this climb ranks among those in professional cycling.

I believe the climb is somewhere between a Cat 3 and Cat 2 climb, but I'm not sure.

The climb was about 6 miles long and 1500 feet high. I think this calculates to 5% grade.

(it was Cadillac Mountain in Bar Harbor, Maine by the way)

From https://www.faqs.org/faqs/bicycles-fa...ection-22.html

4th Category - the lowest category, climbs of 200-500 feet (70-150m).
3rd Category - climbs of 500-1600 feet (150-500m).
2nd Category - climbs of 1600-2700 ft. (500-800m)
1st Category - climbs of 2700-5000ft (800-1500m)
Hors Category - the hardest, climbs of 5000ft+ (1500m+)

Other factors such as steepness are also considered. Climbs under 6% grade are often downgraded. Climbs over 10% are often upgraded.
