Thanks for all the replies guys. I was just unsure as to how much of a difference bikes will make. In response to the earlier question about what conference I am in, my school doesnt have a club. I am thinking of competing in some collegiate "open" events as an unattached rider but I guess we will see. For now, I am strictly training. I will have to see where I am come spring time before I decide how often and where Im going to compete.

Tricycle isnt a bicycle.
If you can find a 50 pound road bike I'd bet you'd sooner or later get strong enough to be able to push it like a lighter bike. I didn't say it made the bike race ready.

this is a lie! don't believe him. slvoid is a very fast rider - his first race he finished top 10 or thereabouts. my first race i finished 5 mintues down and collapsed into a heap of failure at the end. now, I'm nobody to be afraid of....
