Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

24"? Maybe the guy is wrong? Help please!

I was surfing craigslist(I want another bike so I can commute on weekends and ride it places but I dont want a super crappy bike, so I keep on searching)

I found this sweet cannondale R500(or at least I like it). But the guy claims to have a 24" Frame. Im 6'0 and Im riding a 58" Univega so this is half the size.

I think the guy has it off, Is it possible for this thing to be 24"?

Im going to call him tommorow to see whats going on.

Thanks guys

Allso I see this post but the price seems outrageous for such a used bike.

What kind of an offer is reasonable on this ?

sent the guy an email in regards to the blue Cannondale

Maybe I can buy that bike and get my dad into riding with me . He said he was interested in trying my bike but I felt uneasy because he might fall. If I get another bike, this will be a great opportunity for us to ride on weekends

I saw another R300 but it was RSX Shimano components so I felt a little uneasy about it, still sent an email

Wish I could find an identical bike to mine. I really like the components and reliability of this bike, Too bad they don't produce bikes with friction shifters anymore

Hmmm, looks like a 56-57cm bike to me. Guy probably got 24-speed mixed up with 24" somehow. Better than this bike on ebay that the guy claimed was a 52" frame... heh, heh... needless to say, I didn't bid.

I watch cannondales like the one in my sig go for between 300 and 450+ and my bike is from 87 and so are the ones on ebay. Not sure if my bike holds its alue unuseally well or if its the same with all cdales. If you want to make a lower offer id say offer 500.

I was about to say that if you're riding a 58" bike you must be a truly gigantic person! That's going on for 5 feet between bb and top tube!

It's a 58 - says so right in the ad - first line of smaller copy after the "headline".

This is another example of what's wrong with Craigslist. Free ads turn sellers into people fishing for suckers. $650? No. It sold for maybe $800 4 years ago. There are better deals all over the place.

$500 maybe. But I would have to want it pretty darn bad. $400 is more like it.

Ovoleg - skip craigslist and go to the Recycler. Yes, it's harder to sift through the ads but there are better deals throughout.

will give it a shot, I'll just offer them what I think is reasonable and if they want to go for it then they can. I doubt many people will be buying used Road bikes around that price online due to fit/experience. Are RSX components any good? I never heard of them.

I am not in a super rush so I'll keep offering and see what comes up. I got my roadie through craigslist and I think I paid a reasonable amount for the bike/components.

Is the CAAD3 frame any good? Seems to be the majority of the bikes being sold have this frame

THanks guys

My goal is 300-400 for a used roadie, Maybe $500 if I see something I really like with campy components(doubtful). I have been offering around 300-400 for most of the ads.

Ill check out the recycler. Is there a way to view those online or do I have to sign up, because I don't think my house received one in ages.

What, are you in a fraternity? (I was at CSUN)

Haven't seen a recycler in years though I do browse them online. RSX is the line of gear that became Tiagra. Caad 3 is ok - there is nothing wrong with this bike other than it appears to be overpriced in my opinion.

Are you open to going the Ebay route? You know, without seeing or touching it first?

I am anti-ebay and anti-paypal...I wont touch it or even browse it. I used to use them and then at one point the guy disputed the machine(which I told him was USED!) They held $3,500 for 3 weeks from me. They collected interest on those funds and I just sat there waiting for them to resolve it.

Would RSX compare to Veloce or Centaur for campy as would DA to Record? Doesn't seem to bad. I am not going to pay past $400 on that bike, but it would be nice to have a second bike

https://www.recycler.com It's free and is better than the paper version cuz updates are immediate so you don't have to wait until Thursday. I perused the Recycler ads all the time as a student, but was too poor to pay $2 every week.

Nah, I dont like either one of those bikes. I just want a decent used bike with a nice frame and operational parts.

Thats also like 599+tax which I don't want to do

RSX/Tiagra would compare with Xenon and maybe Mirage in the Campy line. Functional parts, but heavy and not likely to last long with heavy use. Veloce and Centaur? Ha...those are quite a step up from Tiagra. I wouldnt even compare 105 with Veloce or Centaur in terms of mechanical quality.

Ouch, Thanks. People have been telling me that my Veloce RD is just average so I was hoping something along those lines. I've had excellent performance with it and never had a single issue.

I will probably use it as a beater or something.

PS: Friday Im going to commute to work, Wish me luck . I have to bring my shoes and pedals so its going to be quite an experience

Bleh that guy will not go lower than $550. What do you think? RSX components make me kind of sick but overall the bike looks pretty clean.

??

Thanks!
