Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

what 'stem' length and bar width is that $177 cinelli ram? You just saved a ton of money if it's your size, I've seen them selling online for 450 euros + shipping from Europe ($50?).

I noticed in the Cinelli catalog they come in the most common sizes

100/110/130/140cm stem length, with 40, 42, 44 widths.

Check out page 14 of this catalog for one with a unique finish:

It has a 130mm stem and 42cm width... I'm hoping it will work out... If not then I will be selling it once again... This bike project has become a whirlwind of buying and selling ..

I saw those, too. Nice pick up. If the length was 120/110 I would have outbid you.

they're not any lighter than the combination of a light stem, and a seperate carbon ergo bar. And with a seperate stem and bar, you can rotate the bar to adjust how the hoods come up (or not), Also you can change stem length if you need to without replacing the whole deal.
Another consideration if you fly with your bike. With a seperate stem and handlebar, you can remove just the handlebar from the stem to pack the bike. With the integrate bar stem, you have to take the stem off, which is going to mean you have to make sure you've got the headset right everytime you put it back together. For me a seperate bar and stem make more sense

All true and very sensible. Though that's why I have more than one bike. So I can let the irrational, ego driven side out once in awhile.

A clear example of fixing what wasn't broken.

It's not really a fix, but it is a fix (like crack around these parts)

I know a guy who has those Cinellis. He cut the drops off. There is enough bar left so there is something to squeeze the brakes towards, but nothing that will support weight. I didn't ask why, pretended not to notice.

Yeah, the coolness factor just doesn't compensate for the lack of adjustability. (It comes close, though.)

guys, guys ... cool or not, you can pick up a lighter stem and bar for probably 1/5th of the cost. Furthermore, what happens if/when you want to clip on some aero bars for a time trial. Those bars will earn you OCP points and nothing else.

I'd like to have one of these (note normal 31.8 separate stem and round clamp area)

OCPs are not allowed to own this item. It is impossible to flip the stem.

i've seen oval computer mount adapters for aero-type bars

cinelli also has a computer-holder that is a washer with a stick on it, you put the bolt for 1 of your 4 stem face bolts through it, and it holds the computer in front of the stem face.

I have a set on my Pinarello. I got them almost 2 years ago at La Bicicletta in Toronto. I paid $730 cdn. They are really, really comfy in the drops. And on top too. You really just have to try them in store before you buy to know if they are right for you. I like them and haven't ever regretted buying them. And they are a bit lighter than an average bar and stem. Unless you have a 'mag" stem and Schmolke bar. They are really light.
