Does anyone know anything about this bike?? Bikesdirect has super preorder deal but the info on it is a little vague. I can't find anything about ride quality, what grade of carbon fiber, etc...

I would be interested in seeing how you guys think the bikes components compare minus the Ultegra group.

well, they're both generic taiwanese carbon frames (not that there's anything wrong with that), which leaves the wheels, and the bar/stem/seatpost basically...
the edge there, I think goes to the Motobecane.

Jim Bonnet 09-20-05 09:39 PM

That motobecane is not the same frame as the CFR. The CFR at supergo is an EPX frameset. I am not sure what that Motobecane is.. Notice the tubes are shaped differently.

I love that EPX paint job...way better than the scattante

veneer 09-21-05 03:18 PM

regardless.. the motobecane is pretty hot and tempting with that red and white scheme. hell.. throw in the MGC velocity aerohead powdercoated RED.. u be bling all the way down the street!

timmhaan 09-21-05 03:25 PM

damn, that epx is pretty hot.

ZappCatt 09-21-05 03:25 PM

Go Supergo....you can always find a coupon to make the difference greater than $300...You could upgrade the wheels for the extra money.

or with the extra money, you can have 55/Rad's painter match the EPX paintjob. ;-)

Where do you find Supergo coupons?

greenfishsports.com sells the EPX frames at real cheap prices (limited sizes, though).

factor in shipping and tax (if your state is so afflicted) then the difference drops significantly.

Then again, if there's a supergo coupon, then the edge has to go to the scatt.

No. Supergo uses the Scat brand name. EPX is a big Australian company that imported bikes into the USA a few years ago, but then gave up on the market. I think they still sell bikes in other parts of the world.

a coupon would tilt me that way too...

the scatt would be about $1199 plus shipping ($45-65?) if another 20% coupon popped up.... then add whatever for pedals...

whereas the moto - including pedals - is delivered for $1795....

so - assuming a coupon - you pay ~$500 more for the moto.... are the ritchey goodies on the moto worth that difference?

another factor: the scatt cfr is much loved and well known around here, whereas the moto carbon is an unknown?

Grasschopper 09-21-05 06:08 PM

I think the Motobecane is probably the better deal. The wheels are better for sure and it could be argued that the Ritchey cockpit and seatpost are better than the supergo house branded stuff. I wouldn't want the white one but they offer it in black too so....

here's what it looks like in black. the photo is from the moto web site (such as it is), and is actually the immortal 'spirit' that is the da upgrade but otherwise seems to be the same bike...

WHY does Motobecane insist on putting those stupid "Shimano 20 Speed" chainstay stickers on their bikes? Its seriously the same exact sticker Huffy uses (I have one in my garage thay says "Shimano 18 Speed"). I can't think of anything tackier to put on a $1000 bike.

agree. eyesore. fortunately they did not put those on the le champs - at least mine, anyway...

Bobmo 09-21-05 11:53 PM

That motobecane's paint job looks effing sweet!! I would buy that over the scattante just for that...

nah, the ritchey bits aren't worth the $500. But $500 would sure pay for a sweet wheelset upgrade.

and have found some older threads that speak well of the supergo brand bits and the korso wheelset....

another consideration in this 'debate': if you have an issue or a problem with the bike, you can CALL supergo and speak to a person...

Herbsinator 09-22-05 01:15 PM

Aren't the Supergo Korsos just Neuvation M28 aero's?

I would go with the supergo.
