Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

First road bike

Well Friday I went and bought my first road bike. 03 Trek 1000, got the low end model first. Bought a pair of Shimano shoes,Look pedals, Cateye computer, saddle pack and flat tire fixin stuff.

Rode this weekend and it was great, I live in a great area, lots of country farm rodes. Maybe in a year or two if I'm going strong I will have to upgrade. Learned alot by reading this site, lots of great information on here. Thanks.

Congrats on the new bike.

That's what I said when I got my first bike a few years ago. Then I got hooked and was drooling over new bikes within 6 months.

Great feeling isn't it? My Giant OCR 1 only has 200 miles on it so far in about 10 days.

You may not even remember the name, but I bet you remember your first kiss.

A friend of mine told me years ago, "Nothing will ever sound as good as your first stereo system. There are many better, but none will ever make that same first impression."

That's how I feel about my road bike. There are many better ones, but no matter what I own 10 years from now, nothing will ever compare with that first ride.

Congrats!

Carl

Boy, I swear I had a ATB around here somewhere. I'm pretty sure I left it here. Hey... what's that over there holding up the gardening tools?

Thanks, I have ridden twice so far. Takes a while to get used to having your feet lock to the pedals. The hills really give you a good workout.

I'm thinking about joining a local club in town. They have rides on weekdays after work and on the weekends.
