Cycling Jerseys
Okay, so I've just started buying jerseys. Would it be really stupid to get a jersey with the name of a biking company's name other than the bike I ride? Also, what about getting "team jerseys" or country's jerseys? I just dont want to look ********. Thats all.

Great, another jersey thread....
Let me just save everyone the time and get all the major points out of the way now:
Wear what you want.
Don't wear the yellow jersey.
Wear a yellow jersey to be seen.
Don't wear team jerseys.
Don't wear jerseys you didn't earn.
Don't pay attention to what anyone else thinks.
Drop anyone you see wearing a jersey.
People wear football jerseys all the time.
Jerseys are licensed to sell by the teams.
More expensive jerseys usually have better fabric/zippers.
Wear what you like.
Don't be a billboard.
Buy only vintage team jerseys.
That about covers it. If you have any more questions, use the search button and bring up all the useless jersey threads that have already been posted.

Doesn't that quote go something along the lines of......
There are no stupid questions, only stupid people
Not that I am suggesting anything of course, I too am interested in people's opinions on jerseys, and haven't read a jersey thread in some time.......

what 'mirona' is really trying to say is: try the 'search the forums' icon at the top of the page and see the overdone responses that have already been repeated ad nauseum.

But a bit of repitition never did any harm, did it. Personally I don't like jerseys that advertise things, whether it's a racing team or a bike shop, or Ben and Jerry's ice cream. But I do like bright colors and loud exotic patterns.
It's a taste thing. Some people would say I haven't got any.

Mirona - hey, understand the frustration with similar post topics but maybe that was a bit harsh?
Maybe this little bit will be new. I wanted to try an Assos jersey. I heard they're incredible, but the price on the net ranged usually from $100 to $200. So I froogled Assos Jersey and came across Assos CSC Team jersey and bibs for $50 to $55 each. Wow - a full Assos kit for $110? I don't care if it says "Jack@ss" on it, I'm in. Unfortunately the only size they had left in the bibs was too large for me, but I got the jersey. Sweet deal -even if it is a team jersey. As far as the Assos quality - its very nice, but I don't know that its all that. Fits well, might be a bit more supple than my World Jerseys. I like it a lot more than my Giordana though for sure. It is a full zip jersey which is cool - literally and figuratively.
So now I'm totally a poser. I don't care. I hope someone tries to drop me. I could use the workout.

Performance has some basic (solid color) jersey’s on sale for $20
Nothing fancy, but cheap enough to have a clean one for each ridding day.
Bought a few myself.

I wonder, when your friends bring up something in conversation that has been discussed in their presense before, do you jump down their throats too? we are all on here becasue we like to talk about bikes. whjy don't you just chill out and let people talk about bikes. if we got rid of all the repeated posts here, this would be a pretty small forum.
so let me repeat what someone else said... don't get you frilly, lacy, pink panties in a bunch.

I bought a full kit when they were available. Nice stuff from 2001 season! The bibs are great. At least the price was for a full kit instead of just a jersey. Couldn't touch bibs for that. I should have bought two pairs of the bibs.

Hahhah. You guys are hilarious. You think my panties are in a bunch, eh?
When I made that list, I wasn't attacking the OP (contrary to your so innacurate belief), I was just writing out all the responses that will inevitably be rehashed throughout the thread as they have in many others. Just look at how accurate I was.
To say I am 'offended' by this post is inane. I find it funny that you got so worked up by my so-called 'offended' post. I guess I'm the only one laughing here among the uptight. Maybe you should be the one to try some nice lace panties as opposed to your circulation-crushing, anal-retention system. Oh, I'm sorry, did that offend you?
And how was my post in the least bit harsh? Jeez, how the hell do you people function in the real world if you consider that harsh? I guess my friends are a little more understanding than yours when I tell them I've heard it before. Try finding a new social circle.
Finally, to answer the OP's concern: Yes, you will look ********.

Personal rule of thumb has always been, if the company isn't giving me gear or paying me, I don't advertise for them.
The exceptions are collector type jersey's from defunct teams, time periods, and companies. I'd love a wool long sleeve Molteni jersey for fall riding!
A yellow jersey? Sure. THE yellow jersey or replica? No.
A green jersey? Sure. THE green jersey or replica, no.
Polk a dot jersey? No.
Anything with world champ stripes, no.
ANything with national championship markings, no.
The jersey of an active locally based pro team? No. Only if it were defunct a good long while. The jersey of a club that I've never had any affiliation or relationship with, no.
Strangely enough, there are still a ton of choices available after eliminating that handful.
Those are my personal rules and limitations. They apply to no one else, and I won't accept royalties if anyone chooses to adapt them!

Wear what you want and don't worry about what others think. One exception is one puddin' mentioned, the jersey of a local team. I suppose this is because other cyclists might actually think you are on that team.
I don't know why this issue is different for cycling. I can wear a college or pro football team jersey, local or otherwise, and nobody gets upset about it. They rightly assume that I follow that team. Same for basketball, hockey, or baseball.
I ride an Orbea and I happen to like the colors of the Team Jelly Belly and Euskaltel-Euskadie, and they also happen to ride Orbeas. NOBODY but nobody is going to think that I'm on one of these teams; mainly because I'm dog slow and also I don't shave my legs. ;-)
Primal makes a lot of non-team jerseys; Louis Garneau makes non-team jerseys, so does Pearl Izumi. Performance jerseys at $20-30 are nice quality and won't offend any Cat 4 racers out there.
A sprinter's green or KOM's polka dot jersey I wouldn't wear either because it would seem you were announcing to the world that you were some super sprinter or climber. Also, those seem to be more like trophies; something one earns, not buys.
These are just my opinions and worth only the ether on which they traveled.

Where does one get jerseys then? Like the OP, I'd like to start building a fine collection of vintage or rare jerseys that aren't the average joe bland solid color jerseys.

I personally enjoy wearing nice bright PRO team jerseys
When someone makes a rude comment I just let them get on my wheel and crank it up slowly until they explode off the back. Nothing else required at that point
