Sounds like someone is way too sensitive. These guys were probably on a team (xc, etc.) and out enjoying their training run. They got out of the way and communicated you were coming the pack ahead - thats better than typical.
Also note that when on these training runs they are probably giving each other crap all in fun, in sport - it passes the time and is part of athletics. You for a moment became part of their dynamic.
Frankly I can't even begin to imagine why someone would be upset by this when there are real concerning situations with threats and agressive behavior.

The other day one serious looking dude in pro gear (acc to his shirt, in the employ of ONCE) braked hard but still hit a kid with his parents. Then began the arguements about who was in the correct lane etc. which if you seriously injure someone is pointless and will go against you especially with the 15mph signs often posted all over.
just coz they are all kitted up doesnt mean there any good or have any idea about the road rules. I wear a fassa bortolo top, avanti leg and arm warmers, netti tights, gerolsteiner gloves etc. i have a good bike... that doesnt mean someone wearing a polo shirt and jeans isnt more knowledgeable. That dude sounds like a bloke i rode with the other day for a bit. he had a $5k+ road bike and was in full lotto-addecco gear i passsed him and he tagged along but i turned off into a no thru road lol to let him go coz i was imbarrassed i was going to go too quick for him, i let him down the easy way. he was huffing and puffing when we went up a hill i didnt even get out of my seat and just rode my own rhythm before i knew it he was 20 metres behind me, lol.

I was crusing at about 19-20mph behind, so i slowed down when I saw that they were all over the trail and politely said "on your left" as i slowly approached them. 3 of them moved over to the right side of the road and the others moved to the left. As i rode in between them, one of them yelled up to the group running ahead, "MOVE OUT OF THE WAY, LANCE ARMSTRONG NEEDS TO GET BY!" I as passed the second group of joggers at the front, one of them looked at me and said " NICE HELMET!" (I was wearing a giro pnemos red, white, and blue helmet with a specialized blue/blk/white jersey). At first I wasn't sure whether they were kidding/joking/or just being wise asses so I didn't say anything back to them and kept riding since the area that I was in wasn't a good one and there like 20 of them and one of me. Obviously, I not the type of person that goes looking for trouble for anything and I normally would blow off this sort of thing. Not sure why i'm still erked about this but it seems that most of the time that i have to deal with a teenager(s) on the road there's always some sort of wise crack out of there mouths. My wife thought that they were being smart asses towards me. Is this a rididculous claim and has this sort of thing happened to you while riding?

Also, I think it happens all the time, where as you pass someone, it appears that they are increasing their speed to try to keep up with you. What's really happening is that they're facing you now, so you can more easily hear their breathing, giving the impression that they've just started trying harder.
My point is, competition is a great thing, but only if you're IN a competition. Don't assume everyone you pass, or who passes you, is trying to be the fastest rider on the road.
To the OP, even though it's hard to remember what it's like to be a teenager sometimes, can't we try? If you've ever been on a sports team in HS, I'm sure you can recall all the sarcasm and harmless taunting that takes place during training. It's just part of the social aspect of the sport, and it's a big part of why many of these kids participate in HS sports.

Funny, I was out riding the other day and saw a locally based pro (female) on an easy spin going in the opposite direction. I'm sure a number of folks passed her. The ones who know, know. The ones who don't sure must have 'showed her' how it's done.

Last week I encountered a group of about 12-15 girls from the local college track team heading at me while I was climbing a hill during an intense hill workout....which gave me the proper motivation to power up the hill (and then die when they were out of sight). They were all really nice....they got quiet and stared at me as I passed them; no rude comments or anything.
I knew there was a reason for taking that road.

The roads aren't terribly busy, but the shoulders are non-existent and people drive pretty fast. Plus, there is usually a fair bit of scenery on the trails.

Wise ass teens don't bother me too much, dangerous ones are what to watch out for. When they get behind the wheel is when they're dangerous. Think of bottles being tossed at you and/or 2 tons of car being purposely swerved into your safety zone. Plus, since they're in cars, they're pretty hard to chase down! I suppose by using a MUP (instead of the road), this can be avoided though
They called you Lance and complimented you on your helmet. Yes, they were probably being sarcastic, but considering it was a bunch of teens, I'd say you got off easy. I suppose you may have to pick your poison -- wise ass teens on the MUP or wise ass teens on the road

No self-respecting roadie would admit to riding on a MUP except to escort a newbie female or a small child.
If you do most of your pedalling on any sort of improved trail or MUP, rail-trail or old tow path, you are by definition NOT a roadie. You are not a mountiain cyclist ether as that intails riding unimproved trails over steep terrain. You are a MUPie - the lowest life form on the cycling food chain. You don't have the intestinal fortitude or fitness to ride on the open road and you don't have the bike handling skills to ride unimproved trails.

The jogging kids sound harmless and by all accounts almost civilized. Big deal. I had a couple kids race by me (not too close, mind you, but quick) on the highway home last night. In a rare instance, I could actually decipher their shout, "Hey, your blinker's on!"
Since I knew I had two flashing blinkies running, I couldn't help but chuckle. No harm, just kids, ya know?
