Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is this a good deal?

I'm getting a new '04 Cannondale R600 for $800. Is this a good deal?

Just want to know if this is a good price for this bike. If not, what would you recommend as a good entry level road bike for 800 or less?

Thanks for your help!
=)

Bikes: Cannondale '04 R600

FWIW, I bought my R600 in '04 for about $1050 USD. It's a good entry bike, but I've got upgrade-itis... want mine?

I bought my R600 in '04, although I suspect that it was really an '03 (closer match to those components, although not much of a diff); I paid $999 for it. Assuming that your bike is in good shape (it's new, right?), I'd say it's a good deal (not killer) and that it is an excellent entry-level (or slightly above) model.

Major whines that I hear are the wheels (Gipiemme Tecno 024), and the brakes, although I have not had any problems in 2500 miles with mine. I'm quite very happy with mine after getting the fit dialed in, but like all roadies, I am curious to try others and compare (e.g., if I upgrade the wheels, will I fly up hills? I doubt it)

Seems like a good price. CAAD5 frameset, mostly 105, and Gipiemme wheels. With it being 2 years old you could try to get a better price on it...
