26 years old, started cycling three months ago. My resting heart rate was around 54 in high school, and had steadily drifted up to about 80 over the years. It's now at 56 and dropping.

Hi Warblade
So at age 14/15 you climbed Ventoux on a 39/21 - thats still excellent no matter what your age!
But I must say I feel ok about my climb using 39/23 at age 42yrs.
Resting heart rate 45 - just for the record!

The lowest recorded heart rate is 28 beats per minute, attributed to a Spanish cyclist named Miguel Indurain.
Mine's 42.

I am just weird i guess... 68-72bpm depends on if I think about it, but my HR is always high... I'm 27 and I can ride at 180bpm for 90 minutes w/o any latic acid build-up in my legs... I am more interested in my HR max, which I do not know... and the formula of 220-age just does not work for me b/c 180 is over 90%max...

MRHR is 32-33 and i'm 24.
I have noticed mine drop with excersize. It was 50 when i was 195lbs and just starting to run and cycle. I didn't even want to know what it was when I was 235, the only training I did at that point was 1/4lb curles at mcd's

at 6:00pm sitting in a calculus lecture it's about 50. I have been pretty stressed out lately and I actually feel like my heart rate is higher than normal. I'm 20.

My hr has been around 47 -52 for awhile now, down from about the mid 60's a couple of years ago before I took up cycling. My weight has also dropped from 176 to 151 as of this morning. Cycling has been good for me, i think.

6'2", 175lbs, 30 yr, resting pulse is about 60, but this varies all over the place.
When i was younger I was told i had a murmer and an enlarged heart. No idea what this means, but occasionally when I'm inactive my pulse will take off like to over 200 (too fast to count). Doctor has checked me out but never found anything, so I've either a ticking bomb in my chest or just have a screwy ticker.

How long did it take the rest of you guys to lower your heart rate? and what are you ages?...

RHR is measured when you are not awake. Its like the bear minimum of what you body needs to exsist. Its about stroke volume and the muscle of the heart walls becoming thinner yet stronger. While it is true that your RHR goes down with fitness (to a point) what it lacks is a never ending quaotation that after I am fit how do I measure that I have become more fit. Your RHR can only go so low because if it did go further then the min for your genetics-we might say things like these "Wooo hooo my HRH is down to 12 but I keep passing out!" or he got his RHR down to 2 and he stoped breathing I think he's dead". But don't despare! The neat thing about riding outdoors is that you can see with things like time ,speed and power that you have become more fit. Or with a HRM doing the work at a lower HR feeling more comfortable or holding the higher HR longer. Hey I almost forgot you'll look better in those jeans too. The thing about dropping HR fast as a recovery well that depends on the work that you are doing for how long and how hard and how fresh you are
but that is another thread.

I'm 50, 190 lbs, 11% body fat and my heart rate in the mornings is around 58. I ride 3 or 4 times a week, between 25-45 miles. Took up road biking this year and just love it.

39 in the morning. I'm 15, almost 16. I just took a reading in the grocery store about an hour after a hard run and my pulse was 49. Dystolic and systolic or whatever... 122/64.

I really appreciate this thread 'cause I was thinking of starting a "tallest tale" thread. Other than claiming to ride at 60 mph down a 20 degree incline, on a ride that otherwise had an average speed of 35+ mph over 6 hours, I was having trouble thinking of other things to add. Now I can add the resting heartrate of 25 or so...
Not that I have anything against those who are incredible condition and who do incredible rides -- it just feels that there is occasionally a wee bit of exageration being shared out there...

When I first started riding again, my BP was 135 over 85, with a resting heart rate of 65. That's taken at one of those free machines at the Target pharmacy, but it was consistent for several weeks. My doc told me to cut the cholesterol and ramp up the exercise regimen.
About 15 months later, near the end of my riding season, my BP's down to 115 / 75, with a resting heart rate of about 43. Same machine, and consistent over several weeks. I've dropped about 10 pounds or a little more in that time, with probably another 8 or 10 to go.
I'll find out in a couple months how the cholesterol is doing. It better be down - no McD's fries for over a year has made me crankier than I like to be.
