Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

phew! now i can sleep well, beth! and i'll suggest to the committee that you get your points back -- undoubtedly you looked GOOD while waiting for the baby calves to do what it is that they do do so doo-doo well! and you weren't riding at the time. OMG: you are an OCP princess!

and may i just +1 your comment to rich?

Damn I am so sorry that I had to miss this ride....effin job!! I so wanted to meet you all. I will have to put this on my schedule for next year, for sure. Aaaaand to make matters worse, my hard drive fried Saturday so I am computerless right now (I am sitting in my girlfriend's office up here in Canada right now). Now I will have to find some time during my workdays to log on and keep up. Dante, I want to thank you again for your kind offer of a lift to the ride, I will surely take you up on it next year. It looks like you all had a great time.

Cheers to You All

Brian

Brian, we missed you, too, because we all had bikes you could have chucked around the parking lot...

But Kirke and Rich made up for your absence by making friends with everyone at every single one of the rest stops and a few here and there along the way. So next year we will be in a peloton 500+ strong, you won't even have to pedal, the bungie cord will be that good!

Dang. This has never happened to me before. I'm having a covered bridge craving ...

I'm sorry you couldn't be there Brian. It was a great ride.
Speaking of rides, If you provide the brew, I'll gladly provide the wheels next year.
Deal?

Dante.

You got yourself a deal....a nice hoppy IPA (Harpoon or Fuller's?) or a Pumpkin Ale (Geary's?) would do the trick quite nicely. Just tell me how many...and that goes for if you want to hook up for a ride anytime.

Cheers,

Brian

So....proof positive, I was out playing Cow Bingo when I coulda' been riding with you fine folks!

I'm with Brian....next year, a commitment...and while we're at it, let's make it a 2-fer - Lancaster in August, and Bucks Co. in October!

Oh yeah, I'm the one on the left hugging the calf

Wow... I was just trying to entice her to come out for next year. I mean really - she chose to watch baby cows poop instead of riding! Granted, there was an opportunity for making a profit, but still. Oh well, I guess I'll just file that particular brainstorm under "It seemed like a good idea at the time..."

oh, we know what your motives were ...
... and if it were some game of betting on the length of lines in front of the port-a-potties, well, let's just say that's only funny when you don't have to go!

and beth, you are a real cowgirl in my mind now. and that baby cow is adorable, maybe cuter than our OCP crowd could contend with afterall.

it's a date then - but wait! are there no covered bridges in the spring?

Bibi, I don't know of any organized covered bridge rides in the spring, but the covered bridges are there all year round! Perhaps we'll have to come up with our own tour...

In any event, I'll keep my eyes open for more fun and games for everyone....the earliest organized ride in this area was a century on May 1st this year commemorating the 100th anniversary of our State Police force (training facilities located here in the Hershey area). I don't know if it's going to be an annual thing or not, but I know that many are hoping it will be.

A cowgirl, eh? It was fun; I spent quite a few years living on a dairy farm as a kid. My earliest memories were of riding my trike out our lane (about a half mile or so) past the cow barn to meet my sister's school bus.

These little buggers were kinda cute...but just as stubborn and unmoving as their bigger cousins. At least I could hoist these guys up and get 'em moving!

Oh, and by the way...the idea of PortaPotty bingo just isn't going to entice me to do much of anything besides run the other direction

There's always next year....

Besides covered bridges, there's this stone arch bridge ride in nearby Buckingham (Bucks County), PA, taken from the CBBC cue sheet library: https://www.cbbikeclub.org/cue_sheet.php?ride=73

That looks like a nice ride. By any chance, is this ride marked out on the road?

Dante.
