Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Stolen Time VXRS

Ok. Im usually never in the road cycling forums but around a month ago someone had a Time VXRS stolen from them in NYC. Today one popped up on NYC Craigslist. If anyone knows the guy who had it stolen or if the guy is in this forum. send him this link. Hey... for all I know this isnt the bike and the guy who has it just wants to unload it 2k lower then what it costs..

https://newyork.craigslist.org/jsy/bik/105259406.html

take care.

The guy selling the bike sounds fishy!

"2005 Carbon Campagnolo group" (Duh its record, anyone selling that type of bike has to know what record is!)
"Sloping frame - frame size and top tube are virtual measurements " (WTF? Thats a compact geometry bike SmartA$$)
"Black San Marco Saddle" Well that really sums it up!

fishiness!

Offer to buy it. When you go to pick it up, check the numbers. If it's yours, tell the guy that it's a felony to steal something worth that much (this will probably catch him of guard). Then tell him the cops are on their way and he should call his lawyer to try to get 5 years probation as opposed to a year in jail. He'll probably leave but if you are worried about it just bring a few friends to jump out of the bushes and scare the bejeezus out of him.

If you get there and find that it's not your bike just find a reason why you "don't want it anymore" (ie. you didn't tell me about this dent!) or just tell him why you wasted an hour of his time.

I hate criminals

Bikes: Too many 80s roadbikes!

So. Either the guy in NYC stole the ebay pics and is planning on bopping his "buyer" upside the head and stealing $1800, and the bike's not even real... or the Ebay version is fake (or mislabelled). My bet is that the guy is in NYC, has the bike stolen last month, and is planning on selling it locally for $1800 and collecting another $1800 on Ebay without ever shipping the bike.

Any other bets?

I think the Ebay listing is legit and the craigslist is a rip.....
Ebay was listed on the 18th... Craigslist on the 19th... The Ebay lister has had his ID since 2001.... He does have 1 Neutral and 1 positive Feedback...

Anyone live in LA... willing to check it out??...

If I were the original owner, I'd answer the craigslist ad and bring a couple of good friends, some cricket bats, and a jumbo sized can of bear spray along with me. I'll leave the rest up to your imagination.
