HED TT Frame
Is anyone out there riding the HED TT Frame? I am looking for a TT Frame for my next bike and have looked at the HED, Cervelo P3 Carbon and the new Giant TCR Trinity. The HED is Aluminum while the other 2 are Carbon, but it is also half the price. Any input would be appreciated. I ride strictly Ultras, mostly 24 hour events. Next season I am doing some with very flat courses. The HED has Carbon Forks, seatstay and drops.

You might try posting this question in the triathlon forum. Steve Hed is from my home town. He built wheels in his garage for years in White Bear Lake.

FYI the HED frame is a generic far-eastern frame with HED decals added, It's also sold by Planet X bikes in the UK (as are HED Stingers, also generic and just branded by HED).

The HED road bike frame is also sold under the Pedal Force brand.
Also worth mentioning - Brad Mcgee road a 'La Pierre' bike in this years Tour. It's also a generic far eastern frame that Planet X also sticker-up.

Also, unless I am mistaken the HED's seatpost is at 73 degrees where the P3 is at 76 and 79 depending on the seat post position. From all I have read (no experience since I do not have a tri-bike) the steeper angle will benefit you when you hit the run portion of a Tri. If you want it for TTs than it is less important. As for an apples to apples comparison, the HED is probably closer in spec to the P2K from Cervelo and not the P3, whether Alum or Carbon. Check them out the are a pretty nice bike for the the money.

This is why I love this forum. Looking/lusting after the Hed Aero frame since it came out...then my heart was broken when I read Euro's posting that it was a clone. Did a quick search of Planet X's website and...they offer the frameset/carbon seatpost&fork w/ track dropouts for an unheard of $697.00!!!!!! I found my next track/TT/Tri frameset, identical to the Hed for less than half price!!!!

I only do TT format with UMCA races. For 06, 3 or 4 of the 24 hour events are on pretty flat courses, and I am already in the aerobars about 80% of the time. I won't be running afterwords so it boils down to what angles will be the most comfortable for 300 miles or more.
All of the other options posted are awesome so now I have to do some ride tests and homework I guess. The Planet X option looks good at 599 UK pounds (about $1099 so $500 cheaper than HED). Even better may be the full Carbon frame for about $200 more.
My last bike was all Aluminum and after about 100 miles the road buzz got to be real annoying. My primary bike now is a Giant OCR Limited all Carbon and it is a huge difference. The practical choice would be to just stick with what I have but I have a Theory of Mediocrity...
Slow guy+slow bike= low finish
Fast guy+fast bike= high finish
Slow guy+fast bike= mediocre finish
Conclusion: a fast bike is my chance for mediocrity!

399 pounds for frame/fork/seatpost... Plus shipping? You're getting it shipped to the US from the UK, or do they stock any in the US?

Yes, Walrus, that is the one, though I prefer the drilled matt black fork option, so that I can run a front brake.
How evil can the shipping be, after all, I am saving a bundle! The only other option at that price is a used frame, or the Abici Time Machine, which is still $800.00 = tax w/ a club rate ( which requires paying to join one of their online affiliates.) and shipping. Planet X is the way to go, it seems, plus their website & costomer support seems to be spot on!
I am the Eggplant, BTW, if it makes a difference....

We are definitely headed toward convergence in frame design. If you look at the Felt tri/road hybrids and the Planet X, the edges are definitely getting blurry...Which bodes well for some of us 'Futurists!' Now if someone will just come up with an affordable carbon disc that I can thrash....

Well, after some thought I ordered the Planet X full Carbon with Aerobars. After currency conversion I am getting the frame, forks, seatpost and aerobars for about $1400 including shipping. Now I can't wait to build it up and throw the HED wheels on it!
