King NoThreadSet Big WHACK!
I took my brand-new Seven Axiom/Chorus/Ksyrium out this weekend (after 17 years on Bianchi Tange-steel/Ultegra) Here's my question: I took two nice-sized bumps at probably just under 20 mph and each time heard an odd sound coming up from the carbon-fiber fork or the King headset: Sounded like something broke -- a loud, sickening CLICK!!. But the rest of the ride went fine and nothing looks or feels amiss.
I never heard anything like that on the steel fork/Ultegra (actually Shimano 600) headset.
Any similar experiences out there?

I had similar noise, it sounded serious. Turned out to be a taco'ed bottom headset bearing. It sounded like the forks were cracking. Like Zig says - take it to an expert, you don't want anything up front unravelling on a ride.

Sounds like brake lever rattle to me. If I don't have my hands on the hoods and hit a bump my brake levers will click or rattle a little. I have shimano, but they all work the same. If your headset isn't loose, go ride again over those same type of bumps and try again. Todays carbon frames, forks, bars and stems distribute enough vibe because of stiffness that your brifters may rattle once in a while depending on hand position and road conditions.
Good luck, happy riding....

Guys --
Nothing has turned up. And it has not happened since, so I'm thinking it probably was something like a cable or brake lever slap.
I turned over my first 100 miles this morning (after three weeks -- I know it's not a lot, but I do a lot of hills and some days I train on the MTB.)
Today's ride was about my best road experience ever. Up Little Tujunga Canyon in northern L.A., where about 20 minutes went by without a single car. Unbelievable in L.A.
It was windy today, which must have scared off some riders, but up the canyon the wind was mixed, sometimes in my face, other times helping me along. 30 miles R/T from my house, with an average of of just 11.6 mph. But by far the most I've ever climbed on a road bike. This bike has a 39-52/13-29. My old bike has 42-52/13-23. So I feel like I have four new climbing gears!
What a great sport.
