Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Buying spokes

Does anyone know a good spoke shop on line where I can buy a few replacement spokes for my rims. I've broken a spoke twice on my rims (cheap ALX 330's) and none of the 5 shops in town carry a comparable replacment spoke. The spoke I'm trying to find is a 280mm long, 2mm, black bladed spoke. I just want to buy 4 or 5 to have as back-ups.

Should I be looking for bladed spokes or should I just use a good quality double butted spoke such as those found on oddsandendos.com?

Also, what is the correct way to measure spoke length? From the center of the "head" straight to the end of the threads?

Airbomb is out of stock with 280mm right now. Ask them when they can get them.

Honestly, if you have trouble getting bladed spokes in 280mm, substitute double-butted. They will not be much different in elongation per stressed kg and thus will not throw your wheelset into chaos. I would be a stickler for bladed if you were running serious upmarket wheels but with Alex I would not worry, and this is not coming from a snob; I run Tiagra-hub wheels for my 700c offroads. Good Luck.

DT from the outside of the elbow to the end of threads. Wheelsmith from the inside.
