Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Holiday Rides In Socal

I'm looking for informal group rides on any day this holiday weekend. Dont know if some of the regular rides are on this week. I ride La Tuna Canyon, Angels Crest Hwy, Griffith Park, interested in the Simi ride ,and so on. Anybody have plans for the weekend? I live in Burbank.

I'm just going to ride by myself since the guys I ride with are riding on one of the days that I can't. I'd ride with you but I'm in OC and recovering from a broken pelvic bone and might be a just a little slooooooowwww.

I'll be away this weekend and maybe the following weekend as well. But when I'm back in LA, the places you've mentioned will be the places I'll be heading to on the weekends. Except for Griffith Park -- I got 2 goathead thorn flats in 15 miles the one and only time I rode there.

There's a bunch of SoCal riders here, so just keep checking in.

I would but I just bet they start early in the am and I won't be able to start until about 10:00 or so.

There are some rides going on in the Antelope Valley but I doubt you'll want to travel that far north.

If you live in Burbank I'm sure you've at least heard of the Montrose or the La Tuna Canyon rides. They're on-going Sat & Sun rides and they're informal....just show up and join the pack. I work Sundays so I usually do the Sat morning Montrose ride....nice large packs with riders of all levels.

Montrose Ride, every Sat, Trader Joe's parking lot, corner Grand Av & Mission in So Pasadena, 8am sharp for the easy ride, 8:25am sharp for the main fast ride. Do not join the 7:45am girly ride. All rides are approx 40 miles and ends in Sierra Madre.

La Tuna Ride, every Sun, L.A. Zoo parking lot in front of the museum, approx 8:15am, small chainring ride all the way til La Tuna Canyon, then everyone hammers up the hill, re-groups at top, down and up towards Verdugo Hills hospital, re-groups, down to and through the Rose Bowl and out to Colorado, and back to Griffith Park.

Riders range between 15 and 65 in age on all these rides.

I'll be riding the 8am Montrose ride..... hope to see some of you out there this weekend...
