Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New setup: SRAM Red shifters, Force derailleurs, FSA SL-K Light compact crankset, KMC X10 SL chain, 3T Ergonova Pro compact bars. All installed today. Kept the 6600 brake calipers and 10 speed cassettes (on these Spinergys and on a set of Ksyrium SSC SL's). Shifting gears is now enjoyable.
Nice bike. How are those Spinergy wheels?

I like them. They're not the lightest deep dish aero wheels around, but that doesn't matter to me as I just ride for exercise. These are the Spinergys with the PBO fiber spokes - really interesting since they're flexible and you can actually tie these spokes in a knot. They're super strong, durable, and remained true in the 4+ years I've had them, which is impressive for a clydesdale like me (6' 2", 240lb). I also have a set of Mavic Ksyrium SSC SLs which have been bombproof for me as well.

Here's my 9-5!

It's not the first white CAAD-9 to have been posted, but our lettering doesn't match.

That must make mine the 'other white bike'.

Here's my CAAD9

She got me to the finish line at two triathlons last season, I have absolutely no complaints.
But I would love to swap the fork for something lighter.

The stock Shimano wheels on the 9-4 are tanks. After swapping them for some not particularly light (1545g) EA90 Aeros my 58cm is 17.5 with pedals (Keo Max Carbon), Cages (King Ti) and computer (Edge 500).

How much does your bike weigh Independant.mind? Those wheels really set it off.

Thanks,

To be honest, I've never put it on a scale, I'm guessing in the 16.5 range (maybe 17???) with the carbon wheels which sounds about right with 105 shifters/Cranks/Pedals and Ultegra Derailleurs.
With the stock wheels on there (Shimano R500, which are about 1900g with rubber) it feels a little portly (especially the rear)

The bars and stem are 3T Ergonova Pro and ARX Pro so that kinda helps a little.

It's by no means a weight weenie, but it's a sensible build and I've managed to race on it and train all last season. The only thing that I would change would be the fork, I'm not especially fond of it.

Thanks for the info. I've been eyeing them and think I may take the leap.

Thanks buddy. I have a CAAD9 6 with full Tiagra in a 52 (yours obviously looks like a larger size). I haven't put it on a scale either but I still have the R500s on it but I did put 3T ARX, ergonova, and dorico pro components on it.

Mine's a 58 and also came with full Tiagra, I slowly purchased the 105/Ultegra stuff off ebay and was able to swap out the grouppo. I sold the Tiagra stuff and put together a dedicated TT bike for this season with the funds.

I'm still going to use the R500 wheels for training, the roads in Toronto are brutal and those things seem to take a beating. They're just kinda heavy, I did replace the stock tires on them with Michellin Pro3, and that actually made a big difference.

Oh damn you're in Toronto too??? I'll be watching out for that CAAD. I'm surprised I haven't seen another one on the road despite them selling out so fast. I'm thinking of swapping out for a Rival group, but I'll have to wait till summer since I'm still in school and funds are slow...
