Ok so there has been a red bike thread and there had been a Cannondale thread. I have noticed a lot of posts from Roubaix owners lately and as a new Roubaix onwer myself I think we should have a thread too.

Plus at least unlike many other threads recently it will have Road Cycling content. :D

So post your photos, build details, and ride expierences here.

I will start. Just got an 06 Roubaix Comp which I am tearing down to rebuild with Campagnolo components. I quickly found out that the Gerolsteiner logos are meant to be removed...this was a bit disapointing as I liked how they looked...a quick email exchange with Specialized customer service had new high tack stickers on the way which I have received but not yet applied to the frame.

Roubaix Comp 06 frame/fork/seatpost/stem
FSA SLK MegaEXO compact
Specialized Toupe
Campagnolo Record brakes
Campagnolo Record Ergo levers
Campagnolo Record rear derailleur
Campagnolo Centaur CT front derailleur
Shimano SPD-R600 pedals (hate to mix them in but they work so well)
Easton EA70 bars (for now)
DT Swiss RR1.1/SpeedCific wheels (custom built by Mike Garcia at oddsandendos.com)

Here is the stripped frame:

http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeej440/s...baix_frame.jpg

And we have a new rig. All the parts showed up on Thurs and Fri and I spent Fri evening puting them together with care. Here she is:

http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeej440/s...s/dscn3852.jpg
http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeej440/s...s/dscn3853.jpg

Well I have updated the Roubaix...here is a newer photo.

http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeej440/s.../roubaix_3.jpg

In an odd twist of fate my mother recently got an 06 Ruby from her husband for Christmas. She just sent me a photo of her and her new bike. Apparently she went out on it for the first time today and had a fall with the clipless pedals. She is fine and didn't say anything about the bike so I assume it is also fine, apparently it was 34° today in Austin. FWIW she turns 70 at the end of April...go MOM. :)

Here she is with her new Ruby.

http://caligurl.com/bikergurl/pics/ruby/ruby9.jpg

i had to get sideloader water bottle cages cuz my frame was too small for the lighter "regular" carbone ones i purchased before having the bike... but i like these better than the other ones anyways!

http://caligurl.com/bikergurl/pics/ruby/ruby7.jpg

and another one with a joshua tree:

http://caligurl.com/bikergurl/pics/ruby/ruby11.jpg

mine is the stock full dura-ace (except i changed it to a triple since i do a LOT of climbing!)

the only things i added were the arundel bottle cages and a topeak seat bag! oh! and speedplay X/1 titanium pedals and i use my polar s720i computer!

*GASP* that is one of my biggest fears when i ride now... falling/crashing on my new bike!    (well... i mean i didn't want to crash or fall on my dolce... or even my mountain bike.. but you know what i mean! crash ruby! *GASP*)

it looks like she got the comp version (black) nice!!!!!!! i LOVE black bikes! (of course... it could be the blue expert and i just can't see the color in the pic!) regardless... if she sends more pics.. i'd love to see more pics of her version!!!! (i really, really, really wanted a black bike! lol! i LOVE black bikes... oh... i said that already!)

tell your mom CONGRATS from another member of the RUBY CLUB!

p.s. with that cute pink seat bag... that bike is screaming for pink handlebar tape and maybe even a few chris king pink accessories! lol!

You wanted a black one? I LOVE the color of yours personally, ruby red on a bike called Ruby is just perfect...but I like the color of mine even more...I like blue though. It is the Comp and at 5'2" it is the smallest frame size. She hasn't ridden much recently and the rides she has done have been on a tendem so she didn't have to worry about dropping the bike unclipping, which is what she did with the Ruby. I guess due to the cold temps in Austin she has been riding on the trainer for the last week...no falls reported off the trainer. :D

Edit: DAYMN  I just noticed my mom is rocking a double...with the hills by her house that is pretty bold.

originally.. yes... i wanted black.. flat black! i wanted last year's roubaix pro! however even the smallest one wouldn't have fit me correctly (or would have needed an uber short stem!) i debated on getting the ruby cuz it wasn't flat black... but after seeing pictures... went ahead and put a deposit... (with the stipulation i got it back if i didn't like the bike... including not liking the color! lol!) i actually do love the color of my bike.... it is, as you said, perfect for a bike called ruby! and it's feminine without being gurlie! i was slightly disapointed that it's glossy/shiny... as the pics i saw from interbike were of a flat ruby color! (and why didn't they call the black one ebony or onyx and the blue one sapphire**********? lol!)

blue bikes! lol! i have two! my dolce is blue and my mountain bike is blue! so i didn't want another blue bike (even though it would have saved me buying new accessories! lol! but that's the ocp in me coming out! and realistically.. i STILL would have bought all new blue stuff! ) i even bought new water bottles... i'm SOOOOOOOOO ocp!

if it's stock, it's a compact! both the comp and expert come with FSA compact cranks!

the bike shop tried to steer me toward a compact.. but i didn't want to give up my gears at one end or the other.... so i went with the triple! that way i have my bailout baby gears if/when i need them on long, hard climbs! (i WILL get the king (queen) of the mountain jersey next year! lol!)

Sorry, I don't have a pic of my Roubaix. It's a 2004 Roubaix Comp 27 (FSA triple, Ultegra 9-speed) stock except it has SPD pedals and a FlightDeck cyclecomputer. It's black. SoCal people can see it if they show up at one of the planned San Diego area rides in January.

cell 12-21-05 01:25 PM

I'll have to take some pictures of mine when I get home!

Alright, I'm confused. I have an "04" Specialized Roubaix Pro, flat black (stock). I guess I haven't kept up with what's available since I got mine.

1) Is your ruby colored "Ruby" stock or is that a custom paint job?
2) Is "Ruby" the new slang for Roubaix?

3) Should I post a pic of my Roubaix Pro or is this a "Ruby" only thread???

So lost,
Ralph

Check the title and first post. Specialized sold so many Roubaixs that they decided a womens version was in order...the Ruby is that womens specific version of the Roubaix. The Ruby Pro comes in that great deep clear red.

So please feel free to post photos of your Roubaix.

use what works, if I go fishing I'll probably use shimaNO fishing reel :p

but seriously, I am considering shimaNO pedals for what will be a campy-equipped bike, like the fishing reel--they're good at certain stuff :D

Hey, I wasn't sure if you were just using a slang and I couldn't tell anything from your pic because it is sooo small. Sorry.

First let me say that your mom ROCKS! Yeah it was in the high 30's when I took the kids to school this morning, but I just did some hill repeats on my lunch hour and it's pretty stunning out right now. Mid 50's not a cloud in a picture perfect blue sky. Last I'm not a big fan of Specialized bikes in general, but your bike Grasshopper is pretty sweet lookin'

probably! lol! actually... before the dealer book came out.... and when i was talking to specialized on the phone... they (and the bike shop) were calling it a ruby roubaix... thus being a roubaix but the women's version!

i like that the pro version carries the color ruby (well... sort of! cuz if you've read you know i lusted for a flat black road bike... but i digress!)

i do think it's a tad bit odd that the other ruby's are in black and blue.... i think they should have still called them roubaix's... but called them ebony or onyx roubaix for the comp, sapphire roubaix for the expert and of course ruby roubaix for the ruby colored one!

(and yes... the color has grown on me and i love it more each time i see it! it's really gorgeous in the sun... it changes! i tried to show that in the pics... but alas... i'm not that good of a photographer to get the nuances!)

I recently purchased an '05 Roubaix Comp. An "R" is missing from the top tube, so Specialized gave me a $200 blemished frame credit, which went into Mavic Ksyrium Elites.

Is that Tioga pass in the second pic? That is quite an epic ride. Did u go all the way to the ranger station at the top? Where else did you ride up there? It's amazing riding up there.

Very nice looking bike and don't worry about nuances...I'm a guy.

The Roubaix is becoming a VERY popular bike, when I bought mine I didn't look around at all, I had an old steel Specialized Allez and was very happy with it. I walked into Supergo and test rode all the Carbon Roubaix's in the place and bought the Pro. I believe I was very lucky in that it fits me very well and turns out to be all the things I wanted in a bike. NO buyers remorse at all, and I don't lust after any bike I see out there. I own my dream bike even if the flat black is kind of boring.
