I know, I know...blasphemy huh! But after 16 months of owning it you start to realise that there is NO color on the bike at all! My old bike is white and the Roubaix is black, kind of like the world I live in. I do NOT envy the ride or feel of other bikes, but I do envy some of the cool colors out there.

caligurl 12-21-05 03:19 PM

ok.... i see your point! but then... with a black bike.. you can spruce it up... some red bar tape and tires? (or hot pink if you were a gurl! and the chris king stuff in hot pink on the roubaix would look nice!)

hmmmmm yellow stuff.. if you are into yellow! more silver on it? the customization options are limitless!

Saw the thread right after I posted to the other "my ride" thread.

Here's my 2005 Roubaix Comp (610mm frame, fsa triple - hey, I live in Japan, and these mountains are steep)

Modifications? look pedals, profile design aerobars. Other than that, she's stock. Debating lately moving to 175mm cranks, but dunno yet.

One thing I have noticed:

Lift the bike a little by the stem (so the front wheel is off the ground), and give the front wheel a good spin. I couldn't beleive it, but you can actually feel the vibration which the stock wheel reflectors create. Remove the reflectors and the vibration dissappears.

However, I never noticed the vibration while riding.

Yes, that's Tioga. We started in Lee Vining, rode over Tioga to Evergreen, 2nd day rode from Evergreen to Twain Harte on paved Forest Service primary roads (some great climbing and descending there), then on day three over Sonora Pass to 395. 200 miles, 21,000' of climbing, 26% max grade and according to my friend's computer, 20,000 calories. We were eating 2 dinners a night.

Really stunning ride. We had a bit of rain and some wind over Sonora, but otherwise the weather was mild.

I ride a Madone. So frankly I could not tell the the diference between a Ruby, Roubiax, or a sorbet. However, surfing the net I found this.... And that is one fine machine.

Bought my 06 Roubaix on Sunday. Its the base model in black.

Need to take better pics in the morning when the sun is out. The flash was a bit reflective on a couple of pics. My dog snuck into the last one :)

You ride a avanti vivace and you think a ruby Roubaix is butt ugly? I hope for your sake you never ride past a mirror. I'm just letting MY feelings be known.

PS. Didn't your mother teach you any better?

My Ruby Comp fresh from the LBS  Only has 14 miles on it at the time of this pic. Poor Ruby needs to feel the road under its tires!

Argh...hurry up spring!!!!

For now it is stock other than the saddle which is a Specialized Jett and the Cateye Double Wireless. Oh yeah...made a frisbee out of the Dork Disk :D

I totally don't get this. The only reason the bike would overshift and send the derailleur into the spokes would be improper limit adjustment...the cable tension, which is what will change before your first tune up, just can't cause an overshift. If the LBS properly tuned the bike before the sale....as they MUST do by contract with Specialized...there isn't an issue.

Eh whatever...if you feel better with it on there, that is fine...actually the one that came with mu Comp is pretty small compared to some I have seen...doesn't look so bad....but I wouldn't ride with it on there. :D

i'm not a mechanic.... i'm a RIDER! so if they asked me to leave it on... no problemo! :D NOW... had they asked me to leave on the reflectors... i would have complained!

i didn't/don't have the knowledge to argue with them... (and since no one ragged on it from my pics... i don't think it was that noticable! :p )

as of my ride after work last night... she has 406 miles on her! and i have 8000.2 miles for the year!

They'll take it off for you. Just remind them next tune up.

Don't worry about the dork disc. We all make mistakes. Besides, I wouldn't consider shunning our newest member ;) . I left mine on my old steel commuter until it needed a new freewheel.
