I have an Allez, too! A 2005 Allez Sport (aluminum) that I use as a commuter. The Allez is great, but the Roubaix, like you said, is so smooth and yet so responsive. I'm not sure I agree about the quiet factor, but our Allez's are separated by two decades.

Still no pics of my Roubaix to post. Maybe someone will take a picture of my bike for me in two weeks at the "pie" ride.

I really expected my old bike to come in over 25 lbs, but it came in a little over 23 lbs. So there is only a 6 lb difference between the two, but it FEELS like 15 and there is no comparison in ride.

Ralph

those are the exact same things that sold me for the roubaix. its a good frame. my fondriest would be nice on rather smooth surfaces, but around here its kinda rare so if I did around 80-100km my arms and legs would really start to buzz a bit. with the roubaix nothing of this. it soaks up everything. puts a smile on my face :)

Hey Jason,

Yeah I think that 20 years makes a difference all right! I hadn't even test ridden any bikes at all until the day I bought my Pro and it was the first one I tried out. I think I only rode the others to say I tried a few out, but I was sold on the Pro in a New York minute. Hopefully and probably there will be aabout a dozen camera's on the Pie Ride, so we should get a pic of your bike somewhere out there.

I don't know if you read it, but OC is going to loan me a compact crank (a really nice one too, that kind of scares me) for the ride...what a guy, huh!

By the way, you need to remove the "slow climber" from you sig, it's a dirty lie.

Ralph

Yeah, I know I already posted my bike in this thread, as well as several others :D , but I like this one much more than just leaning it against a wall or garage door. I also made the terrible mistake of not putting the chain on the big ring for the pic ;)

I was just going to mention water bottles before you edited your post...:)

I like to photograph road/race bikes as naked as possible. That means no saddles bags as well...:)

Yeah, I saw about the compact. Glad to see you can get your equipment needs sorted out. :) As for "slow climber", I'll probably change that in a few months.

Thanks, but now you have be wishing that I had stripped the bottles off first :) . It wasn't exactly my train of thought after the freezing climb up.

He..He..He... ...some of us 'claim' to be slow climbers, including Caligurl, but I bet when time comes you guys are just gonna blow some of us by on the pie ride........I'll be happy just to finish the ride by sun down...:D
In fact, I'm bringing along a set of blinkies...

I had one of these on my previous bike for 2 or 3 rides. Then I noticed it was KILLING my shorts when I was climbing out of the saddle so I dumped it. Oh well it was pretty nice for carrying stuff like Powerbars and cell phones.

no.. trust me.. i don't play that saying "i'm slow" game when i'm really fast just to sucker people in.. i'm NOT fast!!!! when i say it... i really mean it! plus... as i said in another thread.. i must be the only person who took up cycling and gained weight.. so i have those extra pounds to pull up the hill (ok ok ok.. so my bike "lost" a few pounds! ) but no... i have ENDURANCE.. i don't have SPEED!

however i am trying to work on having more speed.. but i'll never be able to keep up with the majority of you guys that are regular riders!!!!!

RoBeast - Sweet bike...all of these great looking black ones sort of makes me wish I had gone with the 05 Pro over the 06 Comp.

I prefer black as well. What was the MSRP and the best price you were able to find on an '05 Pro frame?

Well my LBS had a demo frame/fork they wanted to sell me for $980. They still have it. I went with the 06 because at the time I liked the color a lot better and it came with a number of parts I thought I would use (seat post, saddle, stem) that the Pro frame didn't come with...plus it would be NEW vs have a few hundred miles on it with some chips. In retrospect maybe I should have gone the other way...but I am happy with what I have.

i lusted after the 05 pro.... FLAT black.... LOVE it! but they only made the comp version of the ruby in black.... so i ended up with a ruby colored bike instead.. (which has really grown on me)... but i still LOVE black bikes!!!!! (especially flat black!)

I paid $800 for my Pro frame, fork, headset and seat post, all brand new.

feltrider 03-11-06 08:11 PM

I know this isn't the best picture but here is my new 06 Pro. I had the stem flipped but trying it like this due to some neck problems. Picture to big for here so follow link.
