Is Nashbar junk?
I have heard from various sources that Nashbar is aweful, terrible....etc. However, I have a fairly clean record of purchases with them. My LBS says that he would never order from them, but of course he has his nice little shop to get his stuff in. What's your opinion?

of course the lbs doesn't want you to order from nashbar! truth is they're just fine and if they have what you need at a lower price then the only reason to pay more at the lbs is loyalty, which is fine.
nashbar has some great deals on their own branded stuff like headsets or bottom brackets and such. their brand jerseys and shorts tend to be pretty low quality though.

I've used Nashbar seat posts, stems, handlebars, and cassettes. I find them "plain vanilla" but strongly made and a good value for the money. I've also bought Nashbar shorts and have not been pleased with their durability, but considering what I paid for the shorts, I got my money's worth.
In short, there's nothing wrong with Nashbar, IMHO. They're not for "weight weenies" or OCP wanna-bes, but if you care about value for the money, Nashbar's hard to beat.

The people at Ford don't want you to buy a Chevy either.
I've never had any problems with Nashbar products.

- i also recently got a great deal on the factory overstock 700x32C presta tubes... $20 for 20 tubes! (and the tubes are good)...

Well, nice to hear that everyone else buys there! No shame. With my, ahem, limited budget, Nashbar is sometimes the only choice for must have parts.

I have ordered quite a bit from Nashbar.
One thing that bothers me though, is the shipping charge
based on item price rather than the actual weight of the item.
A light item w/ high price tag, why should customer pay
high shipping charge, seems odd.

Nashbar is fine, unless you need something quick
and paying extra for express/air doesn't make sense--it voids the savings which is the attraction of Nashbar
so yeah--they have plenty of cool stuff, but give it awhile longer to arrive, ymmv
just imho

I bought a nashbar brand seat for $20. It seemed like a good value- with cromo rails and plenty of gel padding. Very comfortable.

I like Nashbar. They're big, so they have a lot of high-dollar Dura Ace cramks and stuff, but they also get neat NOS stuff, too. I've gotten Nashbar-branded cassettes, stems and brake calipers on various bikes, and find them to be of exceptional quality for their price point, especially the cassettes. Nashbar good.

I've given up on Nashbar since they were bought by Performance. Their selection has gone down, their prices have gone up, they have started charging sales tax in my state, and their sales are mediocre.

I have bought quite a bit from them and never had a problem. Their delievery is not as fast as Colorado Cyclist or Excel, but it is fast enough. No other catalog that I have seen has the same amount of old school componentry. I just redid the quill stems on my two older bikes with items from them. I can also get freewheels from them. They're fine.
