Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Info needed on an old 'Malvern Star' road bike

Hi all,

This post is aimed at helping my old man. He's living in australia and wants to know some details on a second hand road bike he's just found at his local salvation army. Here's the details as he provided them to me by text message:

'Malvern Star' SL SPORT black frame, crome handlebars.

He tells me it's a proper road bike with drop bars. Sorry but that's the only details he provided.

He basically wants to know if it's a decent road bike and what its original value might be?

Many thanks

Malvern Star to is to Australia probably what Schwinn is to the Americans. Lots of nostalgia, solid stuff but probably not that valuable unless for nostalgic value for your father.

Regards, Anthony

Thanks. Do you know of any sites that contain details or pics of Malvern road bikes, past and present?

very storied frames and they can be quite valuable based on
the models (5 stars go for big bucks even by Aussie standards!)
There is some info here
https://www.classicrendezvous.com/Aus...lvernStar.html
and also the Canberra Bicycle Museum:

Thanks for that. So, does anyone know about the particular model my father spotted, the "SL sports"?
