I think helmets look cool and are certainly a necessary piece of safety equiptment for this rider. but, when buying a helmet. I consider how it looks and how well it works, but have not yet spent over $75 on a helmet. Maybe that is short sighted , since I view it as vital.

I'd always wanted to get a Catlike Kompact since seeing them bobbing around on the climbs in the Tour a few years back. Well I just got this one last year, and I've never felt a more comfortable, secure helmet. Very lightweight too. Feels like an octapus has latched itself onto your noggin. My Giro Monza, on the other hand, felt like a dead cat sitting up there. The Whisper's looks aren't quite doing it for me though.

But only if it matches the bike!

I love my new Bell Sweep R. I've used Giros for years, and prefer the Sweep for fit, ventilation, and especially looks. I love the spikey rear end, and its colours match my bike perfectly (CSC).
One day I'll post a pic of my gear and get hammered with the OCP label.

Bikes: 2001 LeMond Zurich, 1990 Peugeot Bordeaux/105, 1986 Cannondale, 1972 Peugeot UO8... oh, I've lost count.
I really like my Louis Garneau helmet... but of course they don't make that model any more.
The only thing is, the straps keep streaching, so I have to adjust them every 2 weeks! Not to hijack the thread, but am I the only person who's had this problem with helmet straps?

what ever u do try the helmet on before you slap down the $ or $$ on it... You never know what will fit and what won.t
.
I have the Limar 907 / sunset-orange . It's pretty light and best fit for my noggin. the Bell or Giro brand do not fit correctly on me so i went with the limar i'm getting a Shain helmet in a couple months just to have a second helmet. Bell & Giro are different head shapes one is oval and one is rounded...
Also Shain BK100 helmets are a sweet fit too, just hard to buy/find. they have the multi impact tech. composite material with capacity to recover its original shape even after severe knocks. and the insect netting inside them. So no worries over bee's if you are cycling in out in the country area near Shelby forest , shelby farms or up north some near Ripley " msp" and farther up Near Bell Tn.
BTW pridcprix are Are there a lot of cycling shops in the Memphis are now? Just wondering I'm from there and 10 years ago there were only a few...

I like the Catlike helmets, though I like their "Kompact" model better than the one pictured here.
I hear they'll once again be sold stateside this year, after not being available to the US for some time.
Anyone know anything about this?

My Giro Pneumo fits perfectly, I find it to be quite comfortable. But Ive been wearing it daily for 3 years now, so it is about time to replace.
Some of the more esoteric Euro models are good looking and certainly have that euro-cool, not on everybody else's head thing going for them, but if you dont know the fit . . . You could end up just throwing your money away.
Lazer makes some cool helmets. I think LAS helmets are being imported. The MET helmets like Team Gerolsteiner wears are rad, but Im not sure if you can get them here. Uvex makes some good looking helmets, though I dont find them to be very comfortable for my headshape. A local shop here in Portland OR illegally imported a bunch of Catlike helmets last year (they havent undergone US safety testing); maybe someone else did too. Supposedly, they will be sold legally here later this year.
Lots of cool helmets out there. Good luck

I was torn between Black and the White one shown in the second test. The black one won.
