What's the best way to mount a road pump on a Specialized Tarmac?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What's the best way to mount a road pump on a Specialized Tarmac?

Good morning, good people...

I have one of those road morphs, and the pump won't sit on the vertical tube properly because of the front derailleur and if I put it on the diagonal tube, it just plain looks ugly. Any suggestions? Thanks ya'll!

Stick it in your saddlebag.

Look into CO2.

Why worry about it as long as it works???

or

Why not just buy a pump that fits?

I've taken the frame pump off all my bikes and I carry CO2 and a mini-pump in my jersey pocket. The mini is to pre-pump the tube with some air for easier mounting, and/or in the rare case of having to take care of a second flat. Hope that doesn't happen because pumping a tube to riding pressure with the mini would be a pain. In any case, the bikes look much cleaner and where to mount is never a question.

I dont carry a frame pump but I have the CO2 in my saddle bag and wrap the CO2 and extra air in an old sock because after I change the wheel I can wipe my hands with the sock.

Really? Do you mean because of the derailleur clamp? I've got the same pump, and had it mounted there, on the seat tube, for a few months. It fits right over the clamp with no problem... unless I'm misunderstanding...

The pump isn't perfectly flat. It had a small rattle to it that I solved by putting a small rubber foot (you know, those little sticky 3/8" x 1/8" rubber pads) on the pump.

Worked great other than I could no longer use those water bottle mounting holes for a second bottle.

Steve

I always wondered why a frame maker didn't come up with a way to store compressed air inside the frame or a portion of it (one of the seat stays or something).

Blasphemy? Dude give me a break. Snobbery for the sake of being a snobbish ass-assassin is just plain ****ing stupid. This is the real world son, and after I threw down 2 grand on this bicycle (after saving for it for a whole year), it left little money for much else. Sorry, that I don't have your disposable income (being some rich guy's weenie-washer must pay well), so why don't you go zip your dick up in your jeans and keep your bull**** comments to yourself.

Thanks to ya'll who posted some real advice. I went to the LBS and got some longer screws, seemed to do the trick. Thanks SimplyRed.

Talewinds might have been serious, but I wonder if it wasn't just his smartazz way of commenting on what a sleek bike you have. Of course I could be wrong though and he's is a d*ck washer.

Wow Greg... Don't you think that's a bit over the deep end? Are you having a bad start to the work week? Man, you just commited the "breach of etiquette" and went straight for the "triple dog dare" on that one. Or did you learn some cool new "burn!" phrases this weekend that you wanted to try out on someone? I mean, they weren't even that good, or new for that matter, and then you kinda burned yourself
by making the connection between having wealth and, oh what was it there, "being some rich guy's weenie washer", when you were the dude that just set the hook on a Tarmac. I'm wondering though about your attempt to prostelitize about the "real world" when you state that you just forked over two thousand dollars on a bicycle, yet can't be bothered to spend the $15 on a CO2 pump? If you were to try it you might find that CO2 is a great way to go...
Is that a tip-of-the-hat toward irony when you put the love heart in your avatar and then spew verbal abuse toward board members?
You'll discover as you get older that it's easier and more rewarding to go through life making and keeping friends... You're really taking the hard road here...

As a fellow Tarmac rider I recommend CO2 in an underseat pack. Plenty of room for two cartridges, spare tube, patch kit, tire irons. Once you get used to riding with two small explosive devices under your cheeks you're good to go.
