Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

helmet

i need a new helmet. the previous helmet that i had was very basic, and it has seen better days. so I am looking for a new one. preferably sub $100. i know that price as little to do with safety, and a lot more to do with weight. anything else to take into consideration other then personal taste? anyone a fan of a particular brand, or model. thanks.

For the price, I love my tirreno firenza. $35 at Performance. It is pretty basic, maybe you're looking for something nicer, but it's not ugly, it fits me, and it keeps me from getting killed.

Just like everything else, fit is critcal here. I just switched from Specialized to Bell, and there is a lot of difference in the fit. Bell seems to fit longer heads front to back, whereas Specialized in my experience seems to fit rounder heads, and pinched my forehead a bit on longer rides, somehting I did not discover until post purchase. I bought a Bell Furio for $59.99, it seems to be a great helmet for the money. Bell has a nice dial adjust fit system that makes their helmets worth consideration.
