Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

6' tall, 34 in. inseam (real measurement).

Someone should plot this out on a graph - would be interesting to see the variations.

I'm also that size (6' 2", 33" "bike" inseam) and I ride a 57 cm Lemond Zurich (c-t-c) and a 58 cm Cannondale (c-t-t). I used to ride a 59 cm Bianchi a long time ago.

Folks tend to use the word "inseam" to mean three different measurements. In this thread, some people will refer to their "slacks" inseam, some to their leg length, and only a few will cite their actual "bike" inseam.

My inseam for a pair of slacks is 32 inches.

My "leg length", barefooted, measured from the floor to the crotch of my slacks is 33 1/2 inches.

My "bike inseam", which is TOTAL leg length, barefooted, measured from the floor to the pubic bone is 34 1/2 inches.

My height, barefooted, is 5 feet 9 1/2 inches. Used to be 5 feet 11 inches. Old age is a shipwreck.

On a "traditional" road bike, measured from the center of the bottom bracket bolt to the top of the top tube where it joins the seat tube, the size that fits me best is between a size 57 and a size 59.

This is the only one I consider to be the true inseam:

5'5.5" with a 31" inseam (measured using the book method)

From glancing through here, it seems I've got fairly long legs for my height!

most women have long legs and a short torso... thus the need for WSD bikes with the shorter top tubes/shorter reach....

An often repeated myth. Short women generally have long legs for their height, but tall women usually don't (tall women are, on the other hand, often thin, which makes their legs seem longer than they are). Short men, on the other hand, tend to have proportionally short legs, while tall men have long legs.

Only when shorter women and men of equal height are compared, do women generally have longer legs. Since most women are shorter than most men, this myth seems to agree with observation for most people.

At 21 years of age I was 5' 10 1/2" and after 17 years of cutting concrete I was and still am 5' 8 1/4" tall with a "bike inseam" of 32 3/4". I always thought I had short legs, now I'm not so sure.

Hey SesameCrunch, Pico, Denali and acathi cyclist--what size frames do you have?

Nah... your just reasonably tall for your age. Growth spurts happen at dfifferent times for different people. But a 34 inch inseam is kinda long for someone basically 5'10"
