Trek 2300 Pro 1993
I have an opportunity to purchase a Trek 2300 Pro vintage 1993: carbon frame w/aluminum apoxy fork and seat stays. Shimano 600 components, look carbon clip pedals. After market seat - sella italia. has about 500 miles on it.
Seller wants $600 - it that a good price? I am a little leary of the age of the bike. What should I look for as to wear or damage? Seller is willing to let me take to the bike shop of my choice for evaluation.
If my choice were this bike or an intro road bike for abou the same price which one should I choose?
Cheers!

Does it fit? What sort of riding do you want to do? There have been changes in bike geometry that make them more comfortable for the average rider.
$600 seems a bit steep for a 13 year old bike.

Well.....if your budget allows, try and get something a bit newer. Spending $600 on that bike is insane....$200-300 maybe, but NOT $600. By todays' standards they are pigs, and the ride isn't the smoothest - not to mention the frames aren't really that stiff. They are also a 7 speed.
With that being said....my 2100 has still held up, and I use it on my CycleOps Fluid 2 trainer.

Thanks - I appreciate the responses and will pursue a new bike through a LBS. I have been doing sprint tris and looking to move up to olympic distance. I do not ride all year due to running season - half marathons. Cheers!
