Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

damn!!! this is so humiliating!!!

Hi there guys, im new here and this is my very first post. Im 18yrs old, 176cm and 70kg, I dont realli have the skinny cyclist build like Lance Armstrong but Im pretty athletic. Ive been cycling alot recently, but I dont do research and stuff. I have only owned 2 bikes, both of them mountain bikes. I lost my first bike years ago...I dont know what its called, and now Im riding a GT aggresor which've never gone thru any upgrades and stuff, been ridin' it for almost a year.

Alrite, so here's the story. I went to the nearby park to cycle for around 2hours plus and got bored and decided to go home. Then I saw this hot female cyclist infront of me, so I thought to myself ' hey man lez overtake her its gonna be fun'. She was riding a roadbike, with full gear on. I was riding my aggresor which my casual wear, T shirt shorts and slippers.

She was like 50meters ahead of me, so I slipped into gear7(max) and peddalled like mad and got ahead of her. Then I gave her smirk , and then after a minute of leading I kinda slowed down then she overtook me...ugh. Then I continued trailing her for more than 3km before losing sight of her...I was devastated man!!!!!!!

Do I suck or what?

You never had a chance on a MTB. Fat tires and low gearing will get you every time unless you are a racer that can spin the hell out of those pedals. Hot girls is spandex are always fun to look at though.

First...............that won't impress the ladies if they are avid riders. It is more cool to draft anyways so you can view from the rear, if you know what I mean. I guess that will come with age. I guess if I was 18 again I would have done the same. Try being subtle and maybe even ask if it's okay to ride along and ask a few well placed questions and you may end up getting a #. This advice is free and I am in no way associated with MatchMakers.com,net, or any other cheesy web dating service. I have just played the game a few times and hope to give insight to you grasshopper!

I have been dropped by so many fine women over the years, It's something I got used to real quick. I have ridden with top female pros, track racers, and super strong recreational riders. Don't think you can beat all women, even if you get a road bike. Also, their endurance gets better as they get older,(more than mens'). I ride with the women in our club a lot and they always wait for me if I get dropped. I think it's great.

Sometimes women are actually more fit then men.
Plus an MTB is obselete to the graceful lightness of a road bike. Look at the tire width and surface just for comparison.

Woman in Spandex, and you want to pass her? Why bother, unless you have eyes in the back of your head. :-)

If you are lucky you will hit some hills with some out of seat climbing.

(So glad my wife doesn't lurk this board)

I too ride with all girls, BTW alkaiden, that comes with age and smarts! LOL. I get toasted at times by them. I am about 70 lbs. heavier than these 115-120 lb. sticks too. My point, losing to women is not all bad. Like I said, the view from the back is labeled as second best by some, but to the one with the view, it could be the best place to ride a century!

I dunno.....when I used to commute to high school on my 1990 Trek 930 mountain bike, I once did the 5 mile trip (not flat, but not too bad) in 15 min. 30 seconds, including stopping for traffic lights and stop signs. And I was wearing a backpack. So yeah, it is possible to fly on a mountain bike on the road

My guess is she would have beat you even if you'd been on a road bike. For while she may not have been as big or strong as you, she obviously was the smarter rider who knew how to better manage the situation. And chances are, pound for pound, she was in better shape than you.

Yes, you suck. But not because you couldn't keep up; that's not surprising. You suck because you tried passing her, smirked at her, and thought that would be "cute" and funny. It isn't. If you like women, and want them to like you, don't be an a$$. Acting cocky is just fine, but not at their expense.

Of course, when she saw you smirking there, she thought, "Who is this goon? Looks like I need to step in second gear." Zoom.

You might be a cool guy normally, but that's what happened.

Yeah....but it's not the bike that is going to make you fast.....you are going to make you fast. What happens if you put a 2.0L 115HP VW engine into a Porsche Carrera GT? You have a reallllllllly nice car that can't get out of its' own way. Ripped abs are great and all, but don't really mean all that much. Wait 10 years.

Ok, I haven't figured out yet if you're actually serious, or trolling....

Nice abs....but again, not real specific to cycling. I've done over 1,000 pushups, 120 pullups, and 400 dips in one day.....guess what, didn't make my legs or lungs more powerful.

Not really interested.

And what does pull ups have to do with it. Do you pedal with your hands?

She probably had better legs
Better stamina
better bike
better technique

oh and better class. Dude you are going downhill on this one fast. You aren't going win any friends with the attitude that just cause you look better and are a guy, you can smoke a woman.

You need to go home and eat!!! You are malnutritioned!!! A true Clydesdale would have huffed and puffed until he caught her.....Made conversation with her and then just ask if she can pull him, all the while enjoying the view. She would have felt superior but might have let you hang on a while

Your not getting it. BTW...........dude, at 18 my abs were more pronounced. But I did lift weights for 3 hrs. a day too and play sports.

The muscles your using for riding are totally different than those you may lift weights with, run, or what ever your exercise regimen may be. Point blank. I know of a fat guy I have ridden with that could eat a doughnut and drink coffee from his water bottle that can smoke even you, an 18 year old.

Dude, don't think your a Lance just because you have a semi-cut torso. Take the advice people are giving you here and you will be okay.

Youth and being full of pi$$ and vinegar must be nice. I choose however to be witty and suave.

Rad is right...............she may have had a pooch, but she is probably in better shape than you. That cover on that book may not impress you, but it has more content than you can absorb I would imagine.

Umm, no thanks. And please just shut the F up. Are you a man hater? Cuz you're the poster child for the stereotype that makes us look like idiots.
