Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Rate the TREK Pilot 2.1

I am buying a Trek Pilot 2.1 and am coming from a Diamondback Centurian. The bike looks and feels good but frankly after riding my old bike anything would. My old bike is 58" and the new one is 54". Does anyone have an opinion on the Pilot?

My LBS (who is a Trek, Specialized, Giant, and Cannondale dealer) feels that the Pilot and the Cannondale Synapse (there is an AL version for those that didn't know) are Trek and C'Dale reacting to Specialized and Giant having stormed into this class of bike with the Roubaix and OCR respectivly. Their basic feeling as that neither Trek or C'Dale got it just right and while they are good bikes they are quite as good for the target market as the originators. Personally the SPA feature is cool...but that is about all I can say about it having never ridden one...but I don't think you are asking about the SPA either.

So good bike but if you have a chance also take a spin on a Giant OCR Comp 3 (full CF frame) OCR1 (AL very slightly lower spec...lower cost)or a Specialized Roubaix (less money and probably too low of a spec), Roubaix Elite (Full CF frame lower 9 speed spec, slightly more money), or the Cannondale Synapse 2 (AL frame not sure of the cost).
