8 spd to 9/10 spd compatability
Hi All,
Been reading for a couple weeks...first post.
Getting back into cycling after a long layoff...school, marriage, kids....
Prior top-level triathlete, still pretty fit.
Here's the question. My current road bike is my new in 1991 steel framed 8-spd Dura-Ace equipped Daniel Girard....a little heavy, handlings a little squirrelly, very stepp head tube...blah blah.
Would be interested in a new frame....don't think I really need more than the 8 speeds, but wonder about compatability of my 8 speed hubs and current frames...is spacing still the same on the 9/10 speeds, or will by 8 speed hub be too narrow?
I'd also be interested in going to brifters from my current downtube shifters...but don't seem to see many 8-speeds around....If I get 9 speed brifters, can I put a 9 cassette on my old DA hubs? Will my trusty DA derailleur handle that?
Thanks
