hmmm... a cyclist with road rage? simply unheard of! sounds like youre in the wrong forum. |
Google NYC + messenger + fatalities. The New York Bike Messenger Association main page alone details lots of maimed (and dead) cyclists in the city, but there's no break-out to show which ones fell victim to clueless motorists and which ones fell victims to themselves.
Luckily no pedestrians appeared to be hurt in that video. The cyclists filmed clearly had no regard for them. |
Looks fun. Dangerous, but fun.

From bicycle almanac on bicycleuniverse.info : Motorists usually at fault. Motorists are exclusively at-fault in 60% of car-bike collisions, vs. 17% for cyclists. (League of American Bicyclists). Drivers are at fault in almost 90% of pedestrian and bicyclist deaths in New York. In over 90% of pedestrian fatalities, the driver is male. (RightOfWay.org, 1999) Most at-fault motorists who kill cyclists and pedestrians get off the hook. A study by the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition shows that three out of four at fault drivers were never even cited for hitting and killing pedestrians. 22% of fatal pedestrian crashes involved hit and run drivers, yet, none of the runaway motorists were found or charged. In New York, 70-92% of drivers were at-fault in killing pedestrians and cyclists, but 74% didn't even get a ticket. (RightOfWay.org, 1999) I never wish ill on another cyclist no matter what they do. We don't have the responsibility of controlling 1 ton of steel, plastic and fliuds. And not to attack you, but they might not ride with aloha, but lets face it-you aren't sending out too much aloha yourself with those wishes. |

For that matter, the guys in the video could have (and may have -- we don't know how much that race was edited) mowed down any number of pedestrians during that shoot alone. Cyclists do have rights, including the right not to be represented by the cretins in that video. |
Those guys are definately idiots... but that video was quite awesome.

That's Manhattan, not the US. Different kettle of fish altogther. That's the way i rode when i lived there. You pretty much have to ride that way if you wanted to survive, considering all of the psycho taxi drivers, idiotic fat @ss tourists, Hasidim in yellow school buses, and yuppies not looking as the cross streets yelling 'buy, buy, sell, sell!!!' :) btw - what's a cager? |

I spent a Friday night drinking wine and watching those videos. My favorite was the one where they rode on the frozen river.
Those races are called alleycats I believe. They have them here in Austin on occasion I think. Yeah, they're obviously not your typical cyclist. Just like everyone who drives a car isn't an @ss not everyone on a bike acts like that. |
Them's messengers for ya...... woooohooooo!!!
Riding messer style is not for the uninformed nor the feint of heart. It's definately road riding at it's finest..... closed course? HA! :p |

that is one of the best alleycat vids I have seen. As irresponsible as it is, I have to admit that is pretty cool. Those guys definitly have seroius sack. |
I've often wondered what the median age of the posters on the road bike forums is. My guess just racheted upwards a few notches.
 |
Too bad there wasn't any video of them getting hit by a car or run over. And no I am not sorry for being harsh, anyone behaving so recklessly deserves such reward.
|
That was crazy....Nice post
|
Well not-so-silent as to not wish harm on others, their reward for such recklessness is a pay cheque, just like you and me. Show some respect. You have no idea the skills it takes to do that job day in and day out and make enough to pay the rent.

I ride legal as often as possible, but it used to be my job to make money by taking those risks. |
He's just jealous he'll never be that good.

Word!!!!!! I remember that one. Chasing down a biker for clipping a mirror, not even wrecking it. I had a cabbie try to push me off the road the other night cuz I tapped his hood with my knuckles carving around him after he cut me off then stopped. tap tap wake up kinda thing not a slap or anything done in anger. They're pretty brave in their cars aren't they? They sure wuss pretty quick when they realize the cage don't scare everyone on a bike. :p

Just because somebody does something dangerous for money doesn't make it any better. Think of a prostitute, very dangerous work and it pays their bills; but it’s not ok. They risk their lives for a couple bucks, over and over. |
