Here is my Motobecane TI Heat, Rival

It's 18 pounds without pedals. Great ride. It has Sram Rival with a Force long cage rear derailleur.

Nice, you got the best deal going on a titanium bike, congrats.

Frank72 07-13-16 12:59 PM

Thanks! Its responsive but not harsh at all and very stable. I bought it used off CL for $850 and added a saddle wheels (Vuelta Corsa lights) and tires sold the Askiums.

Here's my 2008 Lynskey R210. Was a display frame at a high-end bikeshop for some time and I just picked it up late least year (still new) and built it up earlier this year. Has the subtle "etched flame" effect on the tubes (hard to see in this pic).

I've since replaced the seat post clamp with a red one to match the King headset.

New Firefly

http://i1220.photobucket.com/albums/...4819e4ea6d.jpg

Got this last week:

SRAM Force 1x crank/chain/derailleur/casette/left brake lever
SRAM Red brakes and right shifter

16.5 lbs.

Best things:

Ride: almost as good as my Cinelli Supercorsa, even though this has 25 tires and the Cinelli 23.

Fit: custom frame makes more of a difference than I thought, it fits like a glove and feels more effortless than any other bike I have.

x1 groupset: very nice, I liked it in my Santa Cruz mountie, but this has a bigger range with a 48T ring, the
simplicity and the weight savings are very pleasing.

Buying experience: Firefly offers smooth sailing throughout, great designers, interesting process, and outstanding result.

This baby will survive me. My other bikes are languishing in the garage. I got this one just right.

The 3T Ergonova LTD bar is the most comfortable I've tried. I may upgrade my other bikes with it.
Mechanics don't like the internal routing much, but it's a good idea. The wide bar top will make a difference
in long rides.

I've always wanted to ride a Cinelli Supercorsa, but never got the chance. I've always heard they were the best riding steel bikes ever made, but I'm sure that is subjective.

It is, but I know several people who own one and feel the same way. It is still a good racing bike but it has
the feel of a Bentley, so to speak. I thought Titanium--at triple the price--would be better after all I'd heard, but
nope. It's up there but Supercorsa is tops for me. If there is a better bike I have not tried it, and I
had dozens over the years.

I have lot's of steel bikes but the most comfortable bike I've ridden or owned is my Lynskey Peloton, though that frame does lean toward the sport end of the geometry scale rather than towards the racing end. Even my two touring bikes don't feel as comfortable unloaded, once the Le Tour Luxe is loaded though then I have a difficult time figuring out which is more comfortable.

Foundry Chilkoot, the day I got it (last week). I've swapped the saddle (Bontrager Paradigm RL), seatpost (FSA SLK ITC), and bars (FSA Gossamer Wing) over from my old road bike, but 100 miles in this is the plushest ride I've ever had

Nice looking. Appears though you might benefit from a non-setback seatpost.

so what's the best TI tubes to use to make a top end ti bike .
isn't there different grades of Ti one very more expensive than the other.

There is no best, just depends on what country you would want your tubes made. 3AL-2.5V ti is 3AL-2.5V ti whether it comes from China, Russia, or the USA, what matters is the engineer for the company that is going to make the bike specs the wall thickness, tube size and shape of the tubes. What makes one more expensive than another is how much the market will bear according to the perceived value of the company name.

antokelly 08-19-16 05:14 PM

i may have read this wrong but andy blance (thorn Cycles ) reckons if it hasn't 6al tubes its rubbish.of course i could have read it wrong im pretty good at that, but its on there latest download of touring bikes.i'll try and dig it up.

http://www.sjscycles.com/thornpdf/TH...A_BROCHURE.pdf.

take a bit of searching but he does mention TI bikes against steel built.

Agreed, that picture is of the stock Zipp seat post from before I replaced it. Here's an updated picture from after today's ride

2000 Litespeed Ultimate
Planning on getting this built up over the winter, need to finish restoring it 1st.
Already have a handbuilt dura ace 9000 wheelset from merlin.
Planning on building up with a combo of Ultegra and Dura Ace.
Thinking of taking the frame to a local auto body and see if they can do a better job on the scraches! :)
Anyone have any thoughts?

Maroon Scotch-Brite pad with some time and patience does a very nice job. I would not want to give it to a body shop. Look forward to seeing some finished pictures.

maroon scotch brite is ok for the "shiny" finish?

Sasquatch16 08-29-16 07:00 AM

Yes. Looking at your frame it appears to have what is called a "brush" finish. The duller looking finishes are usually blasted. I have a brushed finish on a Seven frame that is a brushed finish and looks similar to yours. Seven recommended the maroon Scotch-Brite when I contacted them. If you have any concerns give the manufacturer a call.

Much thanks, yep been there (7cycles). Is a "brushed finish the same as a "polished finish? I thought I had a "polished finish. :foo::twitchy:

Your frame looks a lot like mine but I do not think Seven offers a polished finish. I am guessing that polished is a step further than brushing almost looking like chrome? From looking on the internet which I am sure you have you have a lot of work in front of you with rubbing compound etc.

stevero19 08-29-16 12:20 PM

I had tried some braxo on it but couldn't see any difference - I did try to email Litespeed but no response :(

Talk about classy color coordination! I had a Lynskey R230 with a blue CK headset and blue eggbeaters, but the one blue letter on the bike and that awesome (turquoise?) headset looks great. Not overdone, but definitely adds some serious pop...
