yes it is. i used citrus strip. couple applications and leave for several hours... decals scraps off with an old ID card like eggs off of a nonstick pan.
So I'm curious about this, as I am looking at getting that bike, but am not a fan of the decals, but it says on the mb site that any decal removal voids the warranty. Do you guys just not care or what? Thanks in advance. |
This question comes up fairly often, so I thought I post this.
Warranty Link WARRANTY DETAILS This warranty is void in its entirety by any modification of the frame, fork, components, removal of decals or any signs of bending/denting thereof. Bent or dented components, frame or fork would indicate abuse beyond the design of the bicycle IN THE RARE OCCURENCE OF A DEFECT At Motobecane USA, we are proud to produce the highest quality bicycles available and back them up with one of the best warranties in the bicycle industry. High grade bikes rarely have manufacturing defects, few cyclists ever encounter a defective bicycle, and Motobecane USA has quality control that almost completely eliminates defects ONE HUNDRED YEARS All frames made of Titanium. TWENTY YEARS All frames made of Steel. Steel forks. TEN YEARS All frames made of Aluminum. FIVE YEARS All original components. Excluding Shimano, SRAM, Mavic, Ritchey, Avid, FSA. ONE YEAR Paint, decals. Carbon Fiber frames. All Shimano, SRAM, Mavic, Ritchey, Avid, FSA components. LIFETIME REPLACEMENT NO-FAULT / CRASH REPLACEMENT POLICY All Carbon frames and parts. Evaluating damage to carbon fiber parts requires more technology than is needed to inspect metal parts; and in many cases it is impossible to judge the reason for damage to carbon fiber. Motobecane USA will replace any carbon frame or part damaged for any reason at below dealer cost. For example, if you crash or damage a $1200 carbon frame, a comparable replacement can be supplied for under $400. If you crash or impact your bike we strongly encourage you to replace the part, even without sign of damage. If such a crash or impact occurs, Motobecane USA offers a crash replacement program for frames, forks; greatly reducing any replacement cost. To take advantage of this program, contact us via email for full details. |
Motobecane / Bikes Direct doesnt want you or anyone to remove the decals because of one of the following:
A: Its good advertising for them, plus the Ti frame looks sexy anyway B: The stickers is whats actually holding the frame together, removing it will cause the frame to fail C: They dont want you to remove em and place moots or lynskey decals on it just to look cool. BD doesnt believe in posers. |
Sooooo, the question still stands...

Plus removing the decals probably save 1 gram in weight. |

There's probably someone in this world stupid enough to try and remove a decal with an angle grinder and take off too much material. Maybe someone has done it !!

I know removing the decals voids the warranty on the frame, but I really don't care. Even if I get, say, a litespeed, I would still remove the decals because I like the bare Ti look. I think that removing the decals voiding the warranty is ridiculous... the only reason is BD wants advertising. The frame is most likely not going to fail. And if it does... it's like a $300 frame if I add up all the other parts that come with it at the cheapest price available now.
