Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Fargo Challenge?

Anyone go out and see the Fargo event last Sunday? The local club had a ride out there but no one went so I went alone .

I was pretty tired when I got there because I was hammering most of the way. In any case, it's just as I remember it(SUPER STEEP). I watched a few guy go up and quite a number made it to the top. Most of the guys had mountain bikes or some form of a mountain bike.

There was a guy there that had a rear cassette with a 62!!! He said that he was at a 9 gear inch(I cannot verify, this is just what he said).

A few 11 year olds got to the top(this made me cry).

All in all, I think it was awesome watching people climb Fargo Street.

I have some pics if anyone wants to see them?

Anyone else go out ?

No I wont make it up...

Partly skill---Party bike.

You shoudl try it, its VERY steep. My problem is that I cant keep the bike on the ground, the front end just keeps lifting and I feel like I am about to fall on my back. I tried a side street which was close to Fargo Street(incline wise) and I almost faceplanted so I just gave up and started riding back, its aobut 27 miles back to my house

Were you the guy I saw going up Baxter on a red bike? I think I said something like "But you don't get points for this one." I was out there last Saturday. I actually got in a bit of a race towards the top. I was just riding behind my friend, Dave, cheering him up the hill, when this guy passes us. Before I knew it I was sprinting up a 33% grade. Weirdest feeling ever. I thought that was pretty cool, and I though it was even cooler when Dave broke the record with 35 ascents. But then one guy did it 50 times, and he was 61 years old! AWESOME!

It's illegal to make streets that steep anymore.
