Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Does the weather know?? Is it mean on purpose?

So i finally decided that I may want to have kids someday, and so I should probably stop riding on my stock Felt P.o.S. saddle. I went down to the LBS, picked up a Selle Italia SLK (any thoughts anyone?) and came back to put it on my bike. I had other things that needed to get done that day, so I decided it would get its maiden voyage the next day... Lo and behold, I wake up the next morning to grey skies and pouring rain!

This happened thrice before... once the day I got my computer, again when i got my aero bars, and then again when i got my ultegra double crank installed...

Is the weather so spiteful to anyone else, or does it just hate me in particular?

(I live in SoCal, btw, so it's not like it rains all the time...)

What does having kids have to do with getting a new saddle? I assume your talking about numbness. Why wouldn't you want to stop that even if didn't want kids. As for the weather, I rode in pooring rain, snow, and a little hail today, but tommorrow the weather is supposed to be nicer. Either way I'll be out there.

Here in KS, the weather is mean, but in a different way. It'll be 30 degrees all week, I'm going through ride withdrawl, then I look at tomorrow's forecast: 72 degrees. Awesome. Tomorrow arrives, I look out the window, and it's beautiful, sunny and warm. I open the door and WOOSH! The inside of my house is completely destroyed by 40mph winds.

yes, i was tired of the numbness... i was just trying to be clever... it was lost, i guess.

either way, i am afriad to ride in the rain... people on my bike path regularly almost run into me anyway, in the rain, it would be sure disaster

I'd imagine he's talking about a seat with a cutout down the center. Constant pressure in that area could lead to problems making babies! That's why I ride, my Terry Fly.

It's not you. I just bought a bike to get back into cycling after many years off for college. The weather is keeping me from my fun and you just happen to be in the same area as me. My deepest apologies.

I tried to set up a tent in Kansas once. It became a kite. That's why they're good at indoor sports, like College Basketball.

Stop whining and move to NY. After 3-4 MONTHS of persistent temps of 20-40º for your rides, along with 10-40mph winds, rain, and snow - THEN you can tell me how crappy the weather in CA is.

That being said, I am not completely without sympathy for you. Rain DOES suck. And I do ride in it on occasion. And yes, it would appear to be God's Personal Plot To Get YOU. There's one against every cyclist : ).
