Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Scott Speedster frames

Just wanted to see if any of you guys had tried the other Scott frames - like their all aluminum Speedster series?

Would you just get a CAAD8 already.

But seriously this is spawned from your sponor shop wanting you to be on a bike they sell right? I have never ridden a Speedster but I have heard a couple good things and was actually looking at them myself for a climbing bike build I was thinking of doing.

Hell I was just looking at the 360 site...they carry sell Fuji man why not get a 05 Team SL or 06 Roubaix SL in the same size as your Moto...should be a drop in replacement...no?

Hehe - busted! yeah, looking for a "team" bike. I actually just took a chance and got a Speedster S6 frame for 250 bones shipped. Includes CR1 carbon fork and integrated headset. The fork is all carbon and I figured it was worth the price of admission. Near as I can tell the S6 is their low end bike, but the frame is supposedly the same throughout the series(from what little I've heard so far), so the only difference is what comes on it.

I'd love a 'dale or a new Fuji, but I really wanted to do something as economically as possible. $250 is easier on the wallet than ANOTHER $1k - $2k bike. Hmmmm, now I wonder what it'd cost to deck it out w/Campy.

I got a S20 last Thursday as a present from my wife. My LBS upgraded the 105 drive train to full Ultegra 10 (this is one good reason to support your LBS) for free. I am moving up from a Fuji Finest, which was a fine bike (the Fuji held up to my then 290 lb weight and served me well to my current 230 lbs over about 3000 miles). The Scott frame s super light as compared to the Fuji, about 25% lighter. The S20 frame comes with the CR1 form and rear stay, the same carbon as Scott's team issue. After about 70 miles over the weekend, the frame seems to be really stiff and really soaks up the road noise, as compared to the Fuji.

dude, get a caad8, you wont regret it. I won my first race on my 4 four week old R5000 two weeks ago, couldnt have asked for a better bike. plus, since you are on the team, you could probably get a killer deal on it, I mean, what did 2roadies pay for his? you dont have to say online, in fact, I wouldnt...but still. dont cheap out on the frame.

Yea $250 is a pretty smoking deal for that frame and fork. The quality is supposed to be good and I heard what you heard...same frame through the line though I thought the lower models didn't come with the CR1 fork, so maybe you got an upgrade there. I would buy one right now for $250.

Scott Speedster frames

I've ridden an aluminum scott speedster s40, and was impressed. Its been a while and Im looking at buying one now. I only road it a short way but it felt smooth for an aluminum frame. Has anyone else ridden the scott all aluminun frames...s30, s40 etc?

I have an S3 and I love it. They are known to be a good climbing bike the most impressive thing to me was acceleration. Its the same design as the CR1 carbon frame. The fork is very good also.

Bikes: Scott Speedster S1, Research Dynamics MTB

I have the Scott Speedster S1. It is a great bike. It really has everything I was looking for. It climbs great, is very responsive and accelerates quickly. The S1 / S10 is the top end of Scott's aluminum line with full 10 speed Ultegra and the CR1 carbon fork. The lower lines don't have the Cr1 fork. Not that it is a ton of miles, but I have put in over 4000 miles on it in about 8 months. Some day I would like a ti or carbon bike (or both ), but for now I'm very happy.

slight derailment, but how does a CAAD8 fair with a 230lb+ rider?

Bike shop here keeps pimping out a CAAD8 frame and fork for $500....no idea if that's a good price or not, but it's tempting.

Bikes: Scott Speedster S2, Cannondale F600

I've got 2000mi on my S2. Sweet bike. The CR1 fork is bad assed. I would buy another Scott again in a second. Would love to get the CR1 Team Issue. I don't think you will be disappointed in a Scott purchase.

Is that for a brand new frame? I have no idea what Cannondale's retail is for a CAAD8 frame, or if they even sell them bare.

Yeah it's brand new. Slice fork and all. Like I said very tempting, since it would only add $300 to the cost of the upgrades I wnat to do to my roadbike.

Mine is an 05 and I believe it was priced at $1,099 or $1,199. I actually bought mine without the wheels. I had just had some custom made wheels made. I think I got it for $825 without the wheels. That was for the tripple. Since then I have switched to a Ritchy Pro Compact added carbon cages and a carbon post. The CR1 Fork is awsome. Yes from what I understand the S3 is now the S30

Bikes: 2005 Scott Speedster S2 and 2009 Scott Aspect 20

I have a 05' Scott Speedster S2, no Carbon Seat stays like the newer model. Bike rides great, and is very stiff. I have not had any problems with mine yet.

I've seen several '05 Speedster S1's on ebay. I picked up this 56cm S1 F/F on ebay for $400, and threw the record kit from my 05 CR1. A bit overkill for this frame... but it makes for an awesome-stiff-blastoff-racebike. Would I want to ride 100+ on it?... no, but as a weekly crit machine... its the shiznit. Exact same geometry and handling as the CR1.

Thus making a great second bike to my crazy-light-yet-all-durable-build weenie mobile.

youm0nt,
thanks for the price quotes. I have a further question--I had looked at the scott website beofre asking the question, and did not see the MSRP listed.

Since you answered it, Ive pored over it a hundred times, and still don't see prices on there anywhere--its starting to drive me up the wall.

So what gives--where are the prices on the Scott website?
