Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Without those older riders who buy the trophy bikes, high-end bikes would not exist.
Pricey, carbon fiber Euro bikes are not just lighter (some aren't), they are just better at everything. Seriously, 2-3 pounds makes no real difference.

People can buy whatever they want, and if they can afford it, they deserve it.
Hardly an underachiever, don't really care about extremely high end bikes as I don't have any particular love of cf and am quite content with aluminum and steel, and plan on making it past 40 but would like to look good doing it.
