Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Maybe over did it?

Was out riding today, managed to hook up with 2 local riders ive see about. We had planned 2 do 30 miles today but cut short because of me heh. We started out at my house and were about 15 miles in keeping at about 18 mph and i was feeling GREAT. One of the guys in the group kinda broke and i was feeling good and having a good time so i pushed it to try and keep up with him. Well i may have pushed it a little to hard and trying to break myself just playing around case at about the 20 mile mark i bombed and start throwing up. I rode it out but we took a short cut home that was only about 3 miles. Did i push it too hard? i wasnt dehydrated i had been drinking plenty of water, it was about 92 degrees out.

what and when did you eat before the ride?

let me guess - some fried peanut butter sandwiches right before you left the door?

I did that on my second ride out after a 7 year vacation from cycling. Felt great after I threw up and finished the ride without a problem (although more cautiously). You might have pushed yourself a bit too much, but it might be more from what/when you ate as mentioned above. I hadn't eaten 2 hours before, so I threw up water. Keep hydrated, and pace yourself.

methinks you just rode hard. I don't think it hurt you, though. When I used to race, I would get off of a time trial and lay on the grass heaving and hacking and my coach just said "that's how you know you did your best" to which a fellow teammate replied "yeah, and in 5 minutes you will feel fine and wonder if you could have gone even harder"

Everyone's system is different so you need to learn you own well - how much and what you can and cannot eat/drink before/during a ride.

Besides, you need to be able do an easy 40 miles before you can do a hard 30.
