Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

HRM/odometer combinations

Aside from the new Garmin tracker, do any of you ride with a combination HRM/odometer mounted on your handlebar, and do you find it satisfactory?

I know that the Polar 150 HRM comes with an odometer feature, but I don't know how good the odometer is on it.

ultimate odometer/hrm monitor is a powertap. HR, Speed, distance, cadence, power, torque, time. Little pricey though.

I just started riding with a Garmin forerunner 301 More for the HRM than the odometer though. It doesn't take input from wheel or cadence sensors, but the GPS-based odo/speedo/altimeter is pretty good when not obstructed by buildings. I use a combination of Garmin's software and motionbased.com to review my rides. Pretty happy with it so far, but I have heard some complaints about the HRM reliability, so we will see after a while.

I really like the Polar S625x with the bike sensor. I run too, so it serves both sports very well.

What he said. The garmin edge blows, it's like a brick that sits on your handlebar, not only is it not that much more useful with the GPS, it looks horribly ugly on your handlebars.

I have the s150. Been very happy with it. Takes a little learning to get used to, and because it has so many features, you may end up pressing the up/down buttons a lot but it's a great unit. less than $80 at performance too. Highly reccomended. Unless you need cadence of course. Then I'd totally get that 625x.
