"Northern Orange County" BikeForums Ride...

Ok, this was briefly discussed in another thread between Mehow and I, but nothing has since happened... I think. If it has, please direct me to that thread 'cuz I've missed it.

Anyway, let's schedule a north O.C./south L.A.C./west R.C./west S.B.C. ride. There's lots of cool trails we can take: we could go from Fullerton Road in La Habra over East Road to West Road to Colima to Hacienda to Turnbull Canyon, we could go from the Santa Ana River Trail in Anaheim to Huntington, to Newport via PCH, to Irvine via Back Bay, to Orange via Jamboree and back to Anaheim via Katella. Or numerous others.

I'd like it to be a "no-drop" ride in the same style as the O.C. BF ride held a few months back.

Any interested parties?

I'm in...

Oh wait, I don't live there anymore....

I'll be there in spirit. Enjoy.

I can only ride about every other weekend and usually ride with my buddies on the SART on Saturday mornings. I'm open for a Sunday morning ride though.

Sure,

I just the Santa Ana River trail route last Sunday starting from Yorba Linda. I often do the 3-heights route from Diamond Bar which is similar to the one of the other routes you described.

Schedule permitting, I'd be in for a ride in Northern OC

Extort 05-04-06 11:50 PM

count me in... Sundays are a little better for me as well...

any ideas for approximate dates? June 11, 18, 25? and what about mileage? 20 or 120?

Chucklehead 05-05-06 01:12 AM

i'm not from OC, but i'm there if you can get it off the ground.

jschen 05-05-06 10:41 AM

I'm down in San Diego, but I would have a good chance of making it there if it's a Sunday ride.

roadfix 05-09-06 09:29 PM

I'm in for an easy ride...(like fixed gear friendly):)

sivat 05-09-06 09:33 PM

I'm up for it. We could also ride along the beach in long beach. No hills, but a bit windy.

steel_on_wheels 05-10-06 12:20 AM

I'm up for it. Sometime in June would be nice. sat's or sunday afternoons work best. what's the distance?

jschen 05-10-06 09:01 AM

How 'bout a half century or so at a relatively relaxed pace with frequent regroups? Long enough to be meaningful, and short enough to not deter people from joining. And it seems that many people can do Sunday. What about June 11 or June 18?

By the way, to the people planning this, if this isn't what you had in mind, feel free to ignore me. It's not my ride, and I'm not even in the area. That said, if it's June 11 or June 18, I promise to be there.

Extort 05-12-06 06:37 PM

I think that we need to hijack this thread from iamtim... just to get it planned....

start time of 9am, 40 - 60 miles of flat to rolling territory (with a few hills)
June 11 and 18 have two mentions above...

any other ideas?

Sounds good to me. I have no clue about routes out in that area, but if a ride fitting the above description happens on one of those dates, I'm there.

Chucklehead 05-12-06 07:25 PM

can't swing the 18th. i'll be in arizona that weekend. probably dying.

jschen 05-12-06 07:36 PM

How's the 11th for everyone? From what I can tell, most everyone can do the 11th.

Mehow 05-12-06 08:04 PM

Count Me in . . . I'm down for the 11th. 40-60 miles sounds fine . . . now we just need to decide on a route.

On a side note: everyone's gotta represent their avatar some how : )

jschen 05-16-06 12:02 AM

Looks like the 11th is a suitable date. And there seems to be no objections to a relatively non-hilly half century at a friendly pace with frequent regroups. So... any suggestions for a route?

iamtim 05-16-06 08:03 AM

Hijack away; I'm a horrible organizer. The 11th works for me, as do the other days. As far as route, I really like the hilly route through La Habra Heights, Hacienda Heights, and over Turnbull Canyon. I'm not sure how many miles it is; it might be a little shy of the 40 miles mentioned above. Lemme do some mapping and I'll get back to you.

1955 05-16-06 08:37 AM

That day works for me, I'm in.

I'd be cool with that. Turnbull Canyon is beautiful! I used to live a block off of it on Orange Grove (on the lower portion of the Hacienda Heights side). Never rode on it, though... wasn't a cyclist back then. Isn't it rather hilly? Not that I'm complaining :) but if it's hilly, we probably should aim on the low end of the mileage range to keep the ride as friendly as possible.

I'd love to ride Turnbull and such, but I agree that we should make it less hilly so it's more friendly to others. So where are we gonna ride? Across Malvern (aka Chapman/ La Mirada Blvd.)? Imperial? Santa Ana River thing? Some place in Brea? I'm not familiar with the flat parts of the O.C. so . . .

Ok, Ok, less hilly. There's a decent route (although more traffic) that I ride through Yorba Linda -- it's La Habra Blvd/Central/St. College to Birch to Rose out Imperial to Yorba Linda Blvd. to some street to East Park and back. It's a good ride, has some small hills through Yorba Linda Blvd., not bad though.
