Framequest - Replacing the Litespeed
Guys and gals,
I just totaled my Litespeed Vela in a crit yesterday, and now I've got to replace her. My 105 group, and Ksyriums will be put on the new bike.
Criteria:
Sub 1,000 bucks. Less if at all possible. This bike will see lots of racing, and price/weight wise it seems as though aluminum, with carbon forks is the way to go. There is no sense in me spending 2,500 bucks on some super-sexy CF frame, and cracking it.
I like compact frames, but wouldn't throw a standard frame out of the question.
Stiff enough to handle sprints. I'm a sprinter if I'm anything, so it needs to be able to put up with hammering.
I'd like to buy it locally which means choosing from the following makers:
-Cannondale
-Orbea
-Raleigh
-Trek
-Giant
-Litespeed
-Specialized
Or for a bit more of a drive I can get
-Fuji
-Blue
-Bianchi
-Felt
Suggestions?

I think Giant or Orbea if you're looking for compact.
Def. check out eBay for new old stock framesets.

If you're 6 feet tall, I have a Giant TCR-1 Alum with carbon fork and seatpost that I'll let go for cheap.
Cannondales are nice, but finding a frame for less than $1k is near impossible if you want a new one.
Did you get any new scars? -Edit, just went to the racing thread...GOOD LORD.

I'll tell you - if you're taller look into the older Fuji Pro frames or the one or two year old Fuji Newest. You can probably get one of these frames for a half gee and they are GREAT. If they work for Health Net and before them Saturn they'll sure as hell work for you.

Ive got a 56cm Motobecane Team SL that you can have for the cost of shipping, it is supposed to be the same frame as the FUJI SL. It is stiff as hell and when built up with Ultegra and AC Sprint 350's it weighed exactly 16lbs. Yours for the cost of a box, packing and shipping. Unless being from Fayatteville you are a dogface then I might have to reconsider.

Racing - get a NOS s-works E5 frameset. No question. Damn thing is a rocket and race proven. A NOS E5 can be had for $700 from an LBS - no idea about eBay; maybe cheaper. I got a NOS Allez Pro for $500 as my training rig and use that for crits too. Until the RD fell apart

My LBS has several new CAAD7 frames that I bet you could get for a song. What size would you ride?

Bumpage...
I'm actually thinking of building up two bikes now
A cheapie all alu bike to use for crits or shorter RRs. Maybe a Fetish or Leader with my 105 group off the Litespeed.
A nicer caroluminum/carbon/steel/ti (vauge enough for ya?) bike to use for looong RRs, touring and club rides.

It may be that you can't ride anything but titanium now that you've been spoiled.
You might think about https://www.habcycles.com/
Once you've ridden titanium the feel of everything else is off center.
Though I have to admit my Fuji Newest rides really well I also have a really flexible front fork and that does make me a bit nervous at times.
