Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Construction has begun. (Updated - Complete)

This will be Torelli #3 for me. ...call me a fan. The tubing is Columbus UltraFoco. Frame as shown weighs 1595g. Gonna build it with Centaur components, and velocity rims. Gonna give a shot at racing. The frame was actually built by Guerciotti as they were switching from Columbus tubing to Deda. I paid about 1/3 normal retail for a frame of this caliber. I'm excited. I spent tonight framesaving it.

I'll update as more pieces get put on.

Yeah the frame itself is a little lighter, as the tubing is thinner, .38mm at some points, and with a carbon rear and fork..it will come in quite a bit lighter than either bike.

Now, this is the one you said you had some blue wheels for? If everything is blue, with a little yellow here and there, I think it will look great. The red in the decals isn't enough to make a differance, I don't think.

Yep. Blue rims, blue housing, maybe blue tape...if I can find some that looks good. I looked at the grey centaur...but I would have to wait for it, and its a little more expensive...so I am going with the 'normal' stuff.

Might put these cages on it.. https://www.ravx.com/pages/Cages/BetaX.html

Grey Centaur? Interesting. I just might work. You know, I have to admit, with my blue and gold Ti bike, I reallylike how the black Chorus and carbon compact crank worked out, but it's a bigger investment. Sure lightened it up though.

Are you going with blue tape, and a blue or yellow saddle too?

Blue tape with yellow plugs.

Nice frame - I love the mix of steel and carbon. What is the geometry? From the pic, it looks longer in the seat tube and shorter in the TT - something I'm looking very much at these days.

If you don't mind sharing - what kind of deal did you find?

Boxing it up for safekeeping...

Actually, framesaving is a procedure of adding a solution to the interior tubes of a steel frame in order to inhibit any rusting. A good option is a product called JP Weigles Frame Saver.

Well due to the weather, and my wife being sick... I got to spend about 5 hours on the new steed today. Tapped the BB shell, and installed my BB, Crank and headset (chorus) and fork (Torelli aspect carbon) 560 grams with the aluminum steerer tube... not sure if thats really light or not...but if felt pretty damn light, and its 1/2 the price of an easton got a rediculous deal on some NOS campy 10 spd daytona (Centaur's name before they had to change it for copyright issues) so I've got Daytona ergolevers, front and rear derailers on there now. Building up black open pros with gold nipples and centaur hubs. Black groove stem, black torelli bornio seat post.... Now the only thing left to decide on is cable housing, and bar wrap.... I could make it easy and go black...but I'd like another color...just don't know what.. I'll post pics when she's finished. Should be ~17lbs ready to race. Might even have it ready for spring century (with the exception of the wheels, but I can be a little non-ocp and run my red ones if need be ) If not by then...definitely by the strawberry century on the 12th.

I'd like to introduce my newest addition. Its 5lb of evil in a 10lb bag.

Sorry for the lighting / background.

It rides friggin sweet by the way... at least in the 5 miles or so I rode it. Its light, the BB is stiff as hell, accelerates like a rocket, but it still has that smooth steel ride. Woot.

Yep. Only drawback is due to its shape, its hard to mount the mount for my garmin, without it looking strange..

Well done Jakey! Now you will need to spend extra time trying to decide which bike to ride. Will this bike now be your climbing beast?
