Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The Rom was great. Honest. But I recently decided to go with a Campagnolo group and knew it'd be more of a hassle to strip the Rom and build it up again with different components. Not only would it cost a lot to do that but I would get very little on resale of the 105 group that was on it. So, I decided to scrap the Romulus and start over. It seemed logical at the time...

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Habenero. I don't have any personal experience with them, but I have heard great things, the price is right, and hey, it's Ti!

I did check them out this weekend. Very tempting. I still think I'm going with the Cinelli. I've mulled over all the different bikes I could possibly buy and this one keeps coming back to the front of the line. Time to pull the trigger...

I heard that they have a long waiting list. Around 6month or so, but they are beautiful bikes.

I see a Habby in your future...

But seriously, do give them a look. They're a little less expensive than what you're looking for, and don't have all the pretty stuff (lugs, integrated headsets, curved seatstays, etc). But, from the functional perspective, they're awesome. The frame might not look pretty, but it is stiff as hell while still giving a great ride.

Multiply that six months by four, and that's the real waiting list. (from what I hear)

But, if you're not in a hurry, they are soooo pretty...

We're probably making this too difficult for you. I think the cinelli will be a great fit and be a smooth ride given your size. go for it--you won't be dissappointed. just don't forget to post pics and a ride report or you'll have a BF riot on your hands.

Now that's the kind of comment I was waiting for. No more decision making, no more creeping 'what if' thoughts rolling around the grey matter. Just a nice push in the direction I was heading in the first place. That settles it. I'm talking to Tom at GVH today to get things rolling...

Update: Order was placed with GVH Bikes this morning @ 11AM CST. To my surprise the bike was already in the system to be built and Tom was just waiting for me to give him the greenlight. Payment has been made (ugh) and it's being built today and will be ready to ship tomorrow. Tom has been really great to deal with and very patient. He's going to try to take some pictures for me as the bike is being built as well which is pretty damn cool of him. Again, the specifications are:

Fork - Cinelli Super Corsa
Rims - Mavic Open Pro, 32h
Hubs - Campagnolo Centaur, 32h
Spokes - Wheelsmith, 14/15
Tires - Continental GP 4Season, 28c
Pedals - Look Keo Classic
Crank - Campagnolo Centaur CT, 50/34
Chain - Campagnolo Chorus Ultra Narrow
Rear Cogs - Campagnolo Centaur, 12-25
Bottom Bracket - Campagnolo Centaur
Front Derailleur - Campagnolo Centaur CT
Rear Derailleur - Campagnolo Centaur (Medium)
Shifters - Campagnolo Centaur
Handlebars - Cinelli 66, 42cm
Stem - Cinelli X/A, 125mm
Headset - Campagnolo Chorus
Brakeset - Campagnolo Centaur
Brakelevers - Campagnolo Centaur
Saddle - Selle San Marco Concor

Congratulations (again)!

Please post LOTS of pics when you get it.

It's funny, I was thinking a 125 stem seemed VERY long until I realized it's a 61. A 100 stem on my 50 is about the same ratio of stem to top tube length (20%).

Thanks, B. Coming to this point was more of a challenge than I thought it would be. Either way I'm glad I pulled the trigger and had a lot of help deciding in the process.

I plan on taking quite a few pictures. I'm hoping the guys at GVH were able to do the same as it was being built.

As far as the stem length, with the top tube (58cm) it is the same length of my Romulus (58.5cm top tube + 12cm stem) so it should work out well for me...

Agreed. I almost screwed things up last night. In a moment of stupidity I emailed Tom to see if I could upgrade the Mavic OP/Centaur wheels to Campagnolo Protons. I received a message from him this morning saying that I could but he needed to know right away since it was shipping today. I came to my senses and told him to leave the bike with the Mavics...

I've heard Specialized stopped offering the Allez in steel. Not that they should have!

Beautiful bikes Fred. I especially like the lugged Garlatti.
