Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't TAKE calls while I'm in a solo breakaway. Or in ANY breakaway. In fact my cellphone answering ceases once the peloton speed exceeds 24mph.

Aren't something like ten percent of biking deaths in America in Manhattan?

I agree that it is very important that you ride safely yourself. Every Tuesday and Thursday I do bike training with school and one of the kids who thinks he is the greatest biker there ever was almost got hit by a car the other day. It wasn't the cars fault it was his he doesnt ride safe he flies through round-a-bouts without so much as a second look and he drifts within 2' of riders that are only just beginning and getting a feel for their bike and the road.

It's actually 78%, but half of them are pedestrians killed by bike messengers.
