Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

IF YOU ARE INCAPABLE OF HOLDING A CONSISTANT SMOOTH RYTHM IN A PACE LINE THEN RIDE ALONE!!!!
IN A FAST PACE LINE NOT KNOWING WHAT YOU'RE DOING IS DANGEROUS FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED.
LEARN TO RIDE SMOOTHLY WITH A SLOWER PACED GROUP BEFORE TRYING TO HANG ON IN AN "A" RIDE!!
Is that enough yelling on topic to keep it open one more year?

55/Rad's bike is finally painted.
I met 55/Rad and rode with him when he was visiting the area, turns out he was college roomies with a friend. Very nice man.

I took pictures of ES while he was working the TOC, he used one of my snapshots for some promotional thing. Small world, cycling.

As for yelling, I got yelled at by Rassan Bahati 2 weeks ago but it was a yell of encouragment on a hill.
Later, I yelled hello to Tinker Juarez but he didn't yell back.

Bikes: More than I need, really.

55/Rad gets "Very nice man"
I get "Small world, cycling"

I see how it is.

At the next TOC, (if you're working it) stop the car and say hi and you'll get a "very nice man" on bf.

He got banned, and his wife too. For awhile you could not even say "umd" it was censored.

He crashed at San Dimas road race and hurt his back. The ban on his name was lifted but he wasn't allowed to post. He is still riding but not racing anymore.
I rode with him a few times, at least until the road tilted upward and he rocketed away. Very nice man, too.

I saw a group of about 15 riders today. They were riding in a tight group in the middle of a lane on a divided roadway (one lane in each direction). They did not yield to cars behind them and caused somewhat a congestion and caused several drivers to make a pass unsafely due to other cars coming the other way. Why ride in the middle of the lane when you have a perfect 3 foot shoulder to ride on?

Isn't it up to the driver to make the decision on when it's safe to pass? If they're making an unsafe pass, it's their impatience, not the cyclists, that is to blame.

Well I see your point but if you are on a road way that is designated 55 mph and there is a group of cyclist in front of you going way less than that, human nature will take over and you will get frustrated and make a rash decision. That is why most states have laws that state slower traveling vehicles must yield to the right. That would include bicycles as well traveling on the road way.

You need to start a new thread titled: "We're Going to Honk at You"

Most states have a rule that slower traffic travel in the rightmost lane. not that it "yield" to faster traffic. If it's a single lane, tough ****, they're already in the rightmost lane. If you're passing, the onus is on you to do it safely, period, so stop it with the "the cyclists made them make an unsafe pass" bs.

Why so angry? The group could have rode further to the right.

I'm not angry - if you're interpreting it as such, that's on you. As far as riding further to right.... no. This isn't the thread to teach you about sharing the lane vs taking the lane, though, so we'll end it here.

Maybe they could/should have ridden further to the right. But none of use were there, so we don't know why they weren't. All group rides I've been on have made room for cars to pass when possible.
