Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I got yelled at on Saturday. Tried to follow a wheel that was chasing an attack, popped halfway up this long hill, started to swing off when I realized that the entire frigging group was on my wheel and I nearly took out the person who was coming around to close my gap.

So maybe that attack was not as leg-smashing as I'd hoped it was- I thought I was the last person on the train, but we probably never went clear. I won't make that mistake again.

I haven't yelled at anyone, or been yelled at, lately. Must not be trying hard enough.

I deserved to get yelled at last weekend. Total rookie move. I crossed wheels with the guy in front of me and almost went down. He didn't even say a word.

There's a guy in our group that should get yelled at weekly. We normally start out with about 20-25 riders. We take a bike path for a few miles to get out to good country roads. 1 mile into our ride a couple weeks ago, one guy's cleat becomes disengaged from the pedal, and without yelling or saying anything, he just stands up. He was in the middle of the group. About 3 miles later, when we're out of town and climbing a short 18% grade hill, his cleat disengages again and he stops and says nothing. This guy does a lot of stupid stuff. Complaining is fun.

Lots of grumbling, pointed remarks and some side conversations, but no out and out yelling... yet.

I should have yelled at a teammate on a group ride, but I didn't want to embarrass him, so on the neutral roll back to town I quietly told him not to freak out when someone overlaps his wheel. Yes, the other guy made a rookie mistake but please don't compound it and take down the rest of the group.

I am just a weekend rider. i have never raced. Tonight i went to Gratten raceway to watch the weekly bicycle races. There were people in both the A group and B group yelling at each other all night long. So what is the big deal? It seems to go with the territory.

I got brushed by a car while touring the Himalayas, and yelled a lot of obscenties about the driver's mother, trying to get him to stop so that I could beat the crap out of him.

Not much yelling in the 4/5 races here. Occasionally there's some chitchat after the group I'm in realizes we're not catching the lead pack. Sometimes, there'll be an old guy who tries to whip up the pack into pulling him to a better placing and sometimes that works.

I disagree. It is probably the most misinterpreted and taken out of context post of all time, but definitely not d-bag.

I didn't yell, but I sent out a nasty gram yesterday, to my small group, letting them know that they should try harder to hold their line, point out road hazards, and not accelerate when at the front of the paceline.

Not really. It fit in well with the forum dynamic at the time it was started. Keep in mind that it was 5+ years ago.

I got yelled at on friday, but oddly enough not during a ride or cycling related. The most ironic of all things is that it was someone complaining I was too fast for them to keep up with. That never happens in a ride for me LOL...........

I was about to say congrats, you've moved to the next level....then something else caught my attention...If not cycling related, you two were driving somewhere, running?

Nah. I hate running. Karate match. Training for a tournament now.

I have rode with a paceline (perhaps) staying a good 50 ft. behind the last guy. I get the benefit of a group ride without the harrasment, name calling, abusive-ness, etc. I am always in rear yet maintain the pace over 35 miles.

the lack of yelling at people probably is why many group rides are so crazy. Most people don't have to be yelled at more than once.
